New 4 pole motor?

A friend pointed out to me this brushless system:

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXAZUP&P=7
http://www.duratrax.com/caraccys/dtxc3122.html

The controller appears to be a sidewinder but the motor doesn't match any in Castle's current lineup.

Can anyone give some info about this motor?

Avner.

they must have built that motor specifically for duratrax to their specs

Yep. Since both the motor and ESC say "By Castle" on them.

Another Neu 1406 variant ?

Cheers

I don't think it's the Neu-Castle 4-pole design. Looks more like the older 2-pole CM36 Castle motors, before they updated to the rebuildable style. HPI had a system just like that OEM'd by Castle, their Motiv/Warp combo.

Being a 4-pole, It looks to be based on the 1406, but probably uses some cheaper materials. I wouldn't expect the same quality.

same here, well sort of. i put my sidewinder sct esc in my ext2 along with my ezrun 12t 3300kv motor (the 28mm motor). the esc doesn't break a sweat and finishes a run under 100F and the motor peaks at about 130F when running 2s geared for 40mph. the evader is pretty light compared to my rustler,so i can get away with using smaller motors in it.

It says 4 pole in the description:

The 4-pole, 3900kV sensorless brushless motor delivers more torque with greater efficiency, to meet the demands of today's off-road vehicles.

Motor Specifications:
Dimensions:1.42 x 1.85 in (36 mm x 47 mm)
Weight (w/wires):6.54 oz (185.4 g)
kV (RPM/V):3900kV
Voltage Input:2S MAX
Shaft Diameter:0.125 in (3.175 mm)
Poles:4
Wires:13AWG Silicone, 6.89 in (175 mm)
Connectors:4 mm Male bullet connectors
The 1406 motors measure 36x49mm vs 36x47mm for this motor, so my guess is also that its a cheaper variant made to Duratrax specs, like the HPI Flux 2350kv motor which is a 1517 with cheaper magnets- not a bad little system for $100..

Yea my Evader ST is super lightweight even with the 2s lipo installed so with the 5700kv the mid range acceleration is blisteringly fast but it lacks the low end torque I crave. Surprisingly I haven't torn up a diff yet but I went ahead and switched to the b2-t2 diff gear and rings a long time ago and switched to the metal nitro evader idler gear.

2mm is nothing, and if look at them you notice the duratrax version have screw on the body for holding the front bell and in the original castle version the screws are countersink in the front, making it longer.

I recently bought this setup for my 2s Rustler. The MMpro was just overkill just to run on 2s. I didn't use the motor, but it looks to be of decent quality. I'm using an 8L C40 Hacker motor with the Element/Castle ESC. The motor gets warmer then the ESC!

Nice part is that I can use the Castle link to mess with the settings in the ESC. I do miss the adjustable BEC, but it's like running the MM now. There is also no power switch and the warranty is only 120 days.
