mugen mbx5
just picked up this mugen mbx5, it's in pretty ok shape... but will be nice when done. doing a fairly low budget build, just really wanted a 1/8 buggy to rip around local track on practice days and play with on the ball diamonds and dirtbike tracks we play at. this is to go along with my redcat xb-e and converted 2.5 revo.

Too funny, I almost bought that one! I debated a bit to long and then it was gone. Looking for one for my daughter as I have a 5 that I converted to a road car and I also have a 5T.

if anybody has some better, low budget motor recommendations i'm open, but speak up soon, I get paid on the 30th and am looking to complete her then. also it has the kyosho IF344 center diff and needs a new spur, so gearing is open, i was thinking an 11, 12, 13, pinion and 46 spur to start, if i'm off please let me know. thanks, Ron E. |
Leopard motors ;) They are as efficient as NEU/Castle motors and for 85$ shipped you cant go wrong and you can choose the Kv ;) The 4074 series 1400Kv in pretty efficient on 6S.
Pay attention to the hard wires tough, make sure they dont move with vibrations... |
If I were you I'd rather spend the extra cash on a decent motor, and the servo doesn't need to cost much to be good enough. I would get a leopard or a castle neu.

i have a cc mmm 2200, a hobbywing 150 / turnigy 2560 and another hobbywing 150 / turnigy 2000. all are new. i have a brushless e-maxx roller, losi lst2 converted and the mbx5 converted... just have to decide what combo to put in what? all parts are collected and all are ready to go. i know these are all overkill for the mugen but i can run it on 3s or 4s. right now i actually have the hw 150/trackstar 2560 installed, just gotta decide on gearing and give it a run on 3s and see how it goes. also installed a hitec 645mg (i think) servo. i think the cc mmm will go in the lst2 & the 150/2000 in the e-maxx. |
Just finished her up, turnigy 2560kv motor, hobbywing 150a esc and a turnigy 4500mah 30-40c 4s hard case lipo, 14 pinion, switching to 16 soon. what a fun buggy that shreads... threw some very worn tires on and ran a couple min on the street and waisted the tires. I think with the 16 pinion and good tires it's gonna be a blast. For a fairly low budget build the performance is awesome. thanks for the help guy's, now to finish the lst2 conversion... just about done.

allright... got the 16 pinion (46spur). she's running great on 4s, but i mainly just run this buggy in parking lots or roads and need some wheels/tires. i've been searching threads & options like crazy but need help. foams or rubber? hard or soft? i may get some bigger pinions & see what i can get for speeds.
so what on road tire/wheel options work & hold up? think i can run a 19 pinion ok, or bigger? i'll watch temps. turnigy 2560kv motor hobbywing150a esc turnigy 4500mah 30-40c 4s hardcase lipo kyosho if344 center diff hitec hs985mg servo |
the grp rally game tyres are a good option for run in a parkings ..... but if you will race in serious competitions with other buggys I recommend tt tyres with soft compounds ......
