hobbyking dirt cheap 1/5 FG MT clone!

hobbyking has done it again. they have released another one of their awesome deals that many of us have grown to love.

this truck looks like an almost direct clone of the FG MT and the quality looks pretty damn good for a clone if you ask me. it is even the 4WD version and has a tuned pipe! this would cost almost 4 times as much from FG and hobbyking has it for a little over $500.
i have sworn off of large scale trucks, but i think i may just have to get this one after i sell 1/3 of my entire rc collection

With all of the clones and the fact you can get what is basically an HPI 4wd baja, 5th scale is looking a lot more interesting.

I've been closely watching the 4WD 1/5 scene. I want one.

Waiting to have some questions answered here though:

#1. How tough are they?
#2. How much power can they handle?
#3. Replacement parts? Especially with clones.

Alot of setups run through my mind that would just produce awesome results.

Especially with Castle's current ESC line.

High Voltage, High Power! But can the drive train handle it?

The only problem I see is that who is going to make a BL conversion kit for these clones? I think if I were to get into 5th scale I would get that RedCat BL 4wd buggy and just ditch the electronics in favor of Castle stuff.

I don't know that I would go brushless with one. To me, the cost is still too high and benefits too limited to take out the gas engine.

It's not like nitro with the higher cost of fuel and annoyance of tuning constantly. I also figure than anywhere big enough to run one of these beasts will not have the issues with noise.

As for parts, I don't know about the others, but anything that is an HPI clone parts will interchange. You also start getting to the point where parts are big and beefy enough as to not be as major of an issue.

couple of people here got the redcat 5th scale 4wd buggies, they always seem to be broken....
Dunno if they jump them improperly, just plain old bad drivers, bad luck, or if they are easy to break.

I will take my brushless Redcat 1/5 4wd Buggy to the grave with me. After purchasing it I got rid of my Bajas and other gasoline machines. Its that good. The gasoline 1/5 scale Redcat is the best 4wd option out there under $600. All RCs break, especially when they weight 25+lbs....its part of the deal with Large scale.
