1717/Mamba XL/8S or 1717/MMM/6S?

Hey guys, looking for some input.

I have a 1/5th Savage conversion I'm working on and I'm just trying to get some feedback on a good power system for it. I have the 1717 in it now and ready to go. Just need batteries and a speed control.

Ideally, I'd love to run the XL and the 1717 on 8S for run time sake and I'd love to use the onboard data logging. There seem to be issues with the XL right now but would using a 1717 take some of the pressure off that? The way I'm geared now the 1717 on 8S would put me at about 50-55mph.

The MMM is a proven ESC and would save me money, as would going to 6S lipo. I'm sure I can still get the speed out of the 1717 on 6S with some gearing tweaks but I lose the data logging. Not a HUGE deal but it would be nice to mess with.

Thoughts?

mmm+1717+6s = dead esc

I broken 2 mmm using 6s :(

if you use 4-5s is possible work good, but use 6s is a bad idea

I've been running my 1717 on 8s with an XL for months now. It's in a 11lb E-Revo, and doesn't seem to peak over 100A even though it's geared for 70mph+. The XL gives you a large current ceiling, data logging, and a stronger BEC (with adjustable voltage, not just 5.5v). It also costs twice as much...

My 1717 does heat up quickly when it spends a lot of time at 35k+rpm though. After bashing (and/or speed runs) the motor usually comes off at 160°F, and my ESC 130°F at the very most. Geared more conservatively, this will make silly amounts of power in the heavier Savage frame and still remain in the temp limits.

That's good to hear. The 5SC conversion COULD be upwards of 18-20lbs but I'm really hoping to keep it around 16lbs if possible. I will definitely not be geared for 70mph though. 50mph will get me in plenty of trouble
