Great assembly Bulkheads

Ive managed to shear of a screw head in my front bulkhead.
It was the only stainless steel screw on the truck :019:
someone once said to me never, never use stainless, use hardened steel, They may rust but they don't snap. Guess I wasn't listening :032:

my idea was to enlarge the skid plate holes on the bulkheads to M4.
has anyone done this, and is there enough material on the bulkhead to take the enlargement without risk of it splitting?

Hardend will snap also, but at a waaay higher point. Stainless suck's just like alum and ti as screw material.

Helicoil it to m3 and you never strip it out again, ever.

Yes, a helicoil is the best solution.

an M4 would possible fit too, but then you need to make the skids have a deeper counter sink as well.

Sneeck 05.02.2006 01:35 PM

You could tap it to m4 no problem, but a helicoil will never strip, m4 might strip and then the bulk is useless, unless ofcourse you helicoil it to m4.

The 7075 ga bulk's has there helicoils allready installed.

Btw Rene, you still working on that little project or do you have some spare time to chat on msn?

'little project'..

You funny..

Sneeck 05.02.2006 01:40 PM

Well ok, big project.

Nonono, HUGE project.

That better?

Now get on msn......

cheers guys, that all makes sense.
They are the 7075's though.
That must have past me by, the bit about them already having coils in.
Is it possible to drill the screw out and not damage the Helli? :013:

Serum 05.03.2006 01:24 AM

There are special drill to do that.

Right, its probly an age thing, but I can't see the coils:confused:
they stand out like Bulldogs Bollo.....on the UE Diff cases, but I dont see them in the bulks.
Did they always fit them to the 7075's, or do I just need that eye test.

Good news is ,
I don't need glasses, the skid holes had no helicoils in,
BUT the shock tower posts do........wierd, must have been a Friday afternoon job.
still its made the job a whole lot easier.:027:
