Trouble with TP charger, question about hyperion charger

Hey guys, a buddy of mine picked up a thunder power tp610c charger today, and off the wall plug it runs for a couple minutes then turns off, and back on. But off of a 12v car battery it works fine? kind of an odd problem, I am thinking it is a lemon but hoping one of you guys can help us.

Also, my hyperion720i charger will only let me charge a 4000mah lipo at 2c, when it is rated for up to 8c. The charger should do 20a(not that i will charge it at that...). The power supply should put out 12v at up to 30a(according to feathermerchant rc). Is the PS not big enough or am I missing something?

Thanks for any help guys.

Is your Hyperion a new one? If not, you have to update the software to be able to charge at more than 2C - I did my old Duo with it last fall, and they had a disclaimer about loading the software may damage the charger....dont understand that, but there must be a reason. Not sure if its related, but the charger started acting up a short time later.
You should be able to do 8C on a 4000mA pack if its a 2S or 3S with that PS. (360W/32A=11.25V)

I will try a software update, 8a is lots to charge a 4000mah pack at (and yes they are 3s) but, I didn't buy nano-tech turnigy's to charge them at well under what they are rated for haha.

Any idea's on the TP charger? Buddy just bought his first rc yesterday (slash 4x4) with a couple 3s lipos and that charger, and the feckin thing won't even work...

I think on the hyperions it will flash the power supply input - haven't looked at mine, but I've just now got my power supplies wired up to run my new Duo - I have to update the software on it also. Anyway - double check your power supply with a volt meter to make sure that its putting out enough power. I also wonder if it will limit it to 2C if it only see's 12V? May want to check your manual.

I've no idea on the other charger - never used that brand. Sounds like a dud to me. I'd take it back to the LHS he bought it at. I'm assuming he tried a couple different outlets (maybe he picked a bad one to plug it into??).

We thought of the outlet, so tried another one and it did the same thing. We will probably just take it back, which is a pita because the store is an hour and a half away haha.

I figured out your 2C issue - hit the Mode button until you get to "User Setup", hit enter. Scroll down until you get one that asks what charge rate to limit it to.

ps..you have to do this for each channel if you have a Duo.

Sounds like the built-in PSU on the TP charger is a dude or maybe has a bad connection internally- safer to just take it back and swap it / get a different model as a replacement, though if it runs fine from a 12v batt you could always run it from a stand-alone PSU if the worst comes to the worst..
