Video camera question

Just got a new digital video camera so I can record a new bash spot that I found and also my maiden run of my new and improved dual BL Maxx.
I was told that I can download the videos to my computer, but according to the software that came with it, it looks like I can only download the stills.
Anybody know anything about any other software that I can get that would allow me to download the vids?
Thanks

Which camera is it? Some video cameras (like mine) can only download still photos through the USB port, but video through the firewire port.

IEEE 1394-compliant DV in/out terminal for fast, simple transfers to your PC for viewing or editing or to your IEEE 1394-compatible DVD recorder for sharing; streaming capability allows camcorder to function as a Web cam

I guess this is it......what ever a IEEE 1394-compliant DV in/out terminal is

edit .....google scores again :027: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...lance&n=172282

ieee1394 is a firewire (perhaps you have heard about this)

If you have got a windows based PC, which i presume, you need a firewire card in your computer (if the mainboard hasn't got it onboard)

Windows comes standard with 'windows movie maker' which is a nice piece of software, which ables you to controll the camera and capture the movies with.

Some of the newer sound cards have it built in to. I have never used the fire wire but have a port on mine for it.

coolhand is right, many newer sound cards come with a Firewire port instead of the older joystick (non-USB) port.

Thanks guys.
So if I get this fire wire, I am still going to have to get some type of software to download to? I have a Dell that is a few years old with Windows XP, I will see if it has the Movie Maker that Serum was talking about.

Yea, just get a firewire card or a external type and you should be able to use your software that came with it.

It is direcly under >Start>All Programms.

The new version (2.1) comes as an update from Microsoft itself.

Found it. Although I can't download any video. I must need that fire wire cable. The guy at BestBuy said it could be done with the usb but it would just take longer to download.
