High cell count, when to add a receiver pack?
I am thinking of running 8 to 10 cells on my 8s/mgm combo. At what point do I need to add a rec. pack so I don't damage my servo and stuff?
Most controllers I've seen say no more than 12 cells. Otherwise the linear regulator heats up too much and in turn causes the ESC to overheat quicker. 8 to 10 cells should be fine, but some people still use a BEC or receiver pack anyway to fully take that load off the ESC. Receiver packs are relatively heavy compared to a small UBEC, so you might want to check into that...

10 cells will be fine. I use 4s Lipo with the BEC on my Mtroniks Genesis Truck.
I'll just be running 10 cells to prove something to one of my friends new jato. After I smoke him, he probably will not line them up again.
What would be a good gearing start for 8 or 10 cells in a stampede with m2ks?
In the usermanual of this controller is this list you can use about the BEC. Did you checked this?
What do you mean?
There is a page in the manual that shows how much voltage the BEC can handle and how many amps it can put out to the receiver/servos at different voltages.

Since you're only doing a quick speed run, you should be able to gear up a bit. What is your normal gearing on 6 cells?
I really don't have a normal gearing. I have been playing around with alot of different ones. Based on the temps of the motor though I need to go down a few teeth on my pinion. 19/87 is what I ran last night.
What is a good temp for the 8s? I ran it on 10cells today and it got hot quick.
I pretty sure the gearing is only good for a few runs. |
with the 3S lipo on my rc10, it didn't get too hot.
I'm running m2k's and 19/87 gearing. The motor was probably 200 degress. The controller was probably 120 degrees. And it was cool out today. I went down to a 16 tooth and I'll try that tommorow.
200 is too hit.
I don't know the gearing ratio of the rest of that gearbox. You have got an infrared tempgun? |
