10S Mamba XL Cancelled
Just got word from Greg Wright at Castle that no Mamba XL over 8S is going to be released. Too bad.
Quote: "The plans for a Mamba XL controller that could handle more than 8s are not being pursued at this time. The liability for such a controller that could push vehicles like the Baja to almost 100mph is not something that should be put in the hands of the average r/c enthusiast. sounds like a bs excuse to me, alot of us have been running 12cell 1/8 scale for along time

Actually, I think I would wait for word on this issue from Patrick.
He is the controller. I'm sure once they get the bugs and issues resolved with the Mamba XL, it's only good business sense to continue to expand and improve. I'm sure we have great things to look forward to from Castle. |
Yeah, I hope Patrick reconsiders. Higher voltage is really the way to go with these big scale rigs. I'm even thinking about the new Castle Hydra Ice HV.

Is it needed? Is the 8S inadequate for the baja?
I know HV is cool, but its got to be a pretty low volume item. Hard to see where there is a lot of payback for Castle to develop it. I remember back when I had a 45V MGM controller that the FETs available for the higher voltages were much more expensive and not as well suited for RC controllers. This was a few years ago, but I imagine this is still a factor. |
