HPI Flux Tork 2200, is it a Castle Neu or a Leopard?
 

Am a bit confused by the HPI Savage Flux HP Motor, have heard conflicting reports that it's a Castle Neu 1515 1Y in a different case but have also heard that it's a Leopard motor built to Castle specs. With the increase in price for magnets central to these Neu motors has pushed the Neu 1515 1Y from around $170 to $255 (tower) the HPI motor on the same site is still in the $163 area. Is this an unrealized bargain or are the two motors fundamentally different (besides the outer shell) and is this word I have heard that the HPI motors are just cloned (albeit authorized apparently) motors actually true?

I know when I bought my Flux HP the fact it had a "Castle Motor" was a big selling point, but is it a Castle Motor? (I ask as I am changing my 2350 flux motor out to the Tork 2200 in search of some cooler temps and 5/6s running with a MMM Esc)

Leopard motors and Castle motors are very different inside and also differ a fair bit on the out side. There is no mistaking a Leopard motor for a Castle if you ever looked inside both. I have the Tork 2200, CC 2200 and Leopard 2150. If you need proof I am happy to dismantle them and take pictures for you.

The only difference with the Tork motor (at least the one in my HP) and the Castle version is the length of the output shaft. The Tork motor has just a slightly shorter shaft. Everything else on the inside is identical. If there is a difference in materials used, well I can't tell a difference. The Tork motor throws my Flux around on 6S like it was made out of paper. Stays very cool too so I am guessing the materials are just as good as in the Castle motor.

Leopard is OK when compared to the other two but awesome when compared in price. It isn't as efficient as the other two. I am simply guessing this based on heat as it always prefers to run a little hotter on same gearing. Wrappings on the rotor magnets are also a lot messier and just not as nice looking as the Castle motors. Also I have to say that it is a little weaker as well. It just hasn't got the crazy, stump pulling torque of the Castle motor down the bottom but it does feel a little smoother though. Especially at low speeds but that is something that hardly bothers me.
