Wing as wheelie bar?

I've read that some people use a wing as a wheelie bar as well. Is this a good idea? How durable is this? Will the wing hold up okay doing wheelies on various terrains - asphalt, grass, dirt?

I currently have the New Era wheelie bar and it tends to bend. I was looking at the one from rcwheeliebars.com, but am thinking it would bend on a bad landing on it as well. So I'm looking for an alternative, and came across people using a wing.

If this is a good alternative, I know I would need to get a rear shock tower that has built in wing mounting holes. Does the FLM shock tower work? If so, is the "Mugen MBX5 Prospec Rear Wing Mount Set" the one I need (along with a Pro-Line wing)?

Wings work good as wheelie-bars, altough they get scrubbed up on pavement/asphalt. But it's not too bad, they last a long time.
From my point of view, I try to avoid wheelies as much as possible. With suspension setups and stuff... hard to steer when the front wheels are in the air. But to each his own.

The Proline wing is really nice, well-made and durable. Lot's of people use the MBX5 wing mount, you can also use the HB Lightning mount. As far as I know you can bolt the Mugen mount on those FLM towers, but I'm not sure. With a little creativity, you can bolt them to most any trucks, I would say.

Thanks Dafni! :)

Do you know if the FLM towers Mike sells are the older, 13 position towers..or the newer 20 position towers? The newer ones have built in wing mounting holes..I THINK...

I don't know. But I DO know that he most recently got new stuff from them, I would just ask him via email.

will do, thanks

He has the newer. He may still have some of the older ones to. Just make a note in it to ask for the newer ones. Did you look at the wheelie bar for the 3.3 maxx?

infinite_loop 05.09.2006 02:51 PM

Yes, but I just thought the 3.3 wheelie bar wouldn't be a good fit with the power of brushless??

Why..have any experience with them?

I would echo what Dafni says,
I would add that a wing helps loads with keeping the truck stable and easier to jump too. so you get the best of both
when I was testing the Revo in the local car park, I could get some impressive wheelies going with the wing acting as a skid. :027:

Yup..Mike confirms he has the newer FLM towers.

Looks like I'll be picking that up, along with the Mugen mount set and a Pro-Line wing....
