New to me Redcat XBE
My G2R is sold and Savage is hopefully gone soon so i was looking for a replacement basher to play around with.
The brushless baja is fun but my son likes to drive that and the 2wd can be a bit of a handful. I saw an almost brand new XBE on RCuniverse from a local guy. After a chat he was interested in a trade for a scaler I had so a few hours later I now have an almost new XBE! It is setup with: - Stock ESC - Castle 1717 (stock motor included) - 7075RC Aluminum knuckles Checking the thing over quickly i understand why it was never run - All of the batteries (4 x 3s included) and ESC/Motor bullet connections were dry. Whomever did the soldering didn't tin a single wire before connecting the bullets! All fixed now... It came with spare aluminum towers which I've already installed - I've already ordered a Hitec 5755 (stock servos just never seem to cut it) and added a Castle BEC (keeps the load off of ESC and the servo will take 7.4v)... Debating about which ESC to use - keep running this or drop in a MMM or use an MMMXL in due course when I get it back from upgrade. I also have a spare 2028 but not sure if there is room or if it could handle that much torque. Anyone had one of these and know what else I should do/need? I think you should try the esc/motor setup that you have installed and tell us how you like it. I'm planning to try that HW 150a pro esc with a 1717 in my Hummer build. I'm guessing mine will weigh about 18-19 lbs. Have you weighed the XBE with batteries?
Looks nice! |
Have you tried it out yet?
I had no idea they had one of these out in 1/5 scale. Looks big! |
Not tried it yet. Spent a few hours resoldering all 16 connections - 4 batteries, esc and motor and making a charging adapter.
Fitted the towers and called it a day - hopefully the servo will arrive this week and I Can run it at the weekend. |
I memory serves you'll probably need new wheels/tires soon (at least replace the foams). A buddy had the gas version and his foams completely disintegrated within a few weeks leaving his performance suffering.
Sounds like a sweet trade! Let us know how it works out for you! |
I hear that they are great with the 1717 in them. As far as handling more power, I hear the rear bulks like to separate with big power and or abuse. Also the 2028 won't fit without an aftermarket mount, which 7075rc has. Hate to refer anyone to another forum, but the redcatrampageforum.com has alot more info on them.

Damn, im jealous! I want one of those very badly! I looked on abay a while back for a roller but just didnt see any. I wouild throw in your MMM and see how that works before putting the MMMXL in.

The bad rear bulkheads are almost exclusively on the gasser. It doesn't have the rear bracing like the XB-E does. The ones on the gasser were melting / breaking around the rear diff pinion area. I've not heard of anyone having the XB-E rear bulkheads break.
I have an XB-E also. I will be running it with a 5692 730KV Leopard on 12S with a FighterCat 16S 300A ESC. The motor is in the mail. Be sure to shim both diffs I had quite a bit of play in mine. |
I like big buggies.
I wait for others to test them further. Looks good though. |
I saw one of these the other day. Redcat doesn't really have a reputation as a quality pro level car as compared to AE/Losi/Jammin/Mugen......
I didn't realise it was a 1/5th scale till I had seen it in a store. Just how durable is this monster? It looked fun to play with in the store. |

Swapped to a MMM with CC Bec and a Hitec 5755
Was running 2x3s 5000mah hobbywing but just swapped to 2 x 6s 4000mah Gens Ace Upgrades: CNC Rear Hubs from 7075RC CNC Front C's from Redcat CNC Redcat Top Plate CNC Redcat Towers Custom 1/8th CF Rear Top Plate Custom 1/16th CF Mud Guards TBR Front Bumper TBR Rear Skid RCMonster Battery trays on order |
Looking good. Nice job on the cf! Driving impressions? I've been on the fence with these. I want a 1/5 scale electric, truck preferably. Do I stretch my LST and keep the cash when I sell everything else? Or just sell it all and buy an xb-e and put a truck body on it with the appropriate wheels? Descisions descisions.

I'm digging it. Bashed it v hard today and only damage was a shattered body :)
It would be nice to get slightly bigger wheels and a "truggy" body. |
Mine is at the post office waiting to be cleared . I already have fg marder tires and a set of on road tires waiting . I will also change the the esc to monster mamba .
