Mugen CVDs on a Maxx?
THIS guy claims in his ebay auction that he has Mugen CVDs on his Maxx.
Clearly its only a show truck and would make a poor basher, but I wonder if its possible to use Mugen cvds. It looks like he is using 2.5 knuckles. Like that on the older Maxxes. He has lots of pictures they don't look like any cvds I've seen on a Maxx truck and they look like when bottoming out the cvds would jam the cups. This is partially related to THISthread started by me... Any thoughts? -Zack |
Also I don't think he has the arms he says he has. They look more like HCR. And what is he saying about 4mm hinge pins?
|
They look like proline cvds to me(made by MIP but black instead of shiny). I have a set or two on old maxx trucks myself. I also agree that the arms are HCR not ACNC(I have a set of ACNC arms as well).
Sounds like the bulks and arms were reamed to 4mm from the stock 3mm - this would be easy enough to do, actually. |
The bulks reamed to 4mm sounds pretty interesting. I wonder if FLM would be interested in making some arms and bulks with hinge pins for that? But probably not.
Anyway I have believe Mugen 6t drive shafts will work on the Maxx. Particularly on RPM truetracs. The only adjustment I see is that the outside bearing slot needs to be reamed 1mm to allow 16mm bearings. Can someone please measure their Mugen 6t shafts for me?... From the ball part of the shaft to the pin part? Not including the stub axle part. |
The 6T drive shafts are 132mm center of pin to the center of the ball end. If you want the end to end or any other measurement let me know and I'll get them for you :)

Yeah thanks man!! Well it looks as if they will work great on the front suspension with larger bearing slots(aftermarket knuckles or reamed out slots on stock). That is if the stub axle hole works. and I think it will.
But the traxxas shaft is 130.1mm and I believe it will be about the same because the stub axle will fit deeper into the axle carrier maybe even more than a few millimeters. I say all this to say that I do not think they will work after all. However mounting the knuckles on the RPM arms is all together a different story and might still work! lol |
I am running Losi 2.0 shafts and stubs in my RPM truetrac. I will try the fronts with 1.0 shafts.
