Mounting Buggy Tires?
I have a Losi Ten-T and I'm running 17mm buggy rims on it.
I'm in the process of mounting a new set of Proline Badlands onto Odonnell spoked rims. I've taped these tires on the inside with black Gorilla tape. When I taped when I used a full width piece of Gorilla tape. Now that I'm trying to mount the tires it seems like they are bowing out on the side making it hard for the tire to sit down flush against the rim. If you have tapped your offroad buggy tires please let me know if you've used a full width piece of Gorilla tape ordid you cut the tape so that the tape was skinnier? Thanks for the help, Nick |
Did you test fit the tires without tape?
I went to a different wheel and it helped. Are those wheels wider than an avg bug wheel? Do you have any other wheels on hand to test? Gorilla tape comes in different widths 1"-3". 1" would be about right to fit the tread and not roll up on the side walls.IMO |

No I do not have any other rims to try right now, maybe I'll just get a set from Proline. I had questioned the width of the Gorilla tape when taping them, but didnt think the tires would bow out this much. Well time to start over again, no big deal it's still winter here. Thanks, Nick |
When I taped my truggy's proline VTR rims I only used 1.5" width tape. This is for truggy rims though which are are about 2x as wide.
It doesn't take much to keep the tire from balooning. A good 1" strip down the centerline of the tire will prevent the tire from ballooning very well. For a 1/8th rim I'd say a 3/4" would be perfect. And you could do a 1" carefully. As posted above me you don't want the tape to be on the sidewalls of the tires at all. It'll cause issues. |
