1520 repair/replacement
Hi Folks,
The bearings went in my 1520...bad news is that they got inside and the rotor laminate is damaged i think.. ive popped in a new bearing and it still grinds... is there anyone at Castle that can help ? or someone who can repair it ? pic below http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/a...hris/motor.jpg |
I think unfortunately that you are out of luck with the 1520. When castle had their huge sale awhile back, I bought 3 just for this reason as they said that they were limited runs and they were not repairing them. Too bad as I have said before, the 1520 is the best truggy motor they made.
Now, I could be wrong, but I do believe you are out of luck |
id be very surprised if castle left its customers high and dry...
here's hoping someone from CC sees this thread and comes to the rescue (and gets good PR in the process) |
Maybe you could try to remove\cut the damaged part of the wrapping on the rotor.
At the clearance sale the motor comes without warranty. |
If you've still got grinding then there's something else still wrong. Other bearing, bad bearing parts inside motor, bent rotor shaft. The wrapping is carbon/Kevlar thread with expoxy holding it together like a high strength fiberglass. I definitely wouldn't go cutting any of it off and would be prepared to rebalance if attempting a repair.
Idk what Castle has as far as motor repair capabilities, wrapping and balancing rotors may be something that's only done in their factory or for prototypes. I know Castle wasn't keeping many spares after the motor sale. Neu might be willing to help you out if Castle can't. |

but like the post below...i may try and replace both bearings and see if that helps...I must admit...the rotor laminate seems pretty ok.. I cant see any obvious scoring or anything that would foul the inside of the motor. will keep you all posted on progress in case anyone else has this prob in the future. |
hold the phone...
castle will swap busted 1520's for 1717's? I know what i would do :) 1717 is a BEAST chris ;) |
Of course, that's up to castle's discretion. Plus it's not a done deal yet, I just got the confirmation mail detailing the replacement (which included a non-warranty mmm). I replied to them asking if I could trade this deal for a discounted xl2. I haven't heard back yet
I could use the 1717 but the 1520 is better for buggy/truggy use IMO. |

edit: or i'd be willing to sell the 1520 motor if the price is right  |
Thanks for the offer but I have 1 used and 1 new/unused 1520 currently not in use. If I end up with the 1717 I'll kinda be glad to have it just for comparison purposes but my batteries are having their guts sucked out by the 1520 so I may need to renew them first.
