2200 1515 question

Can you run the 2200 on 6s in a '1/8 buggy and if so what gearing for the track?

Use the top speed calculator:

http://www.scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/top_speed.html

Which shows you would have a hard time gearing it for a reasonable track speed (I plugged in 46t spur and 12t pinion and got 51mph) :

Quote:

Differential Ratio: 3.3076923076923075
Transmission Ratio: 1
Other Ratio: 1
Spur Tooth Count: 46
Pinion Tooth Count: 12
Total Voltage: 22.20
Motor KV: 2200
Tire Diameter (inches): 4.5
Tire Ballooning (inches): 0
Motor Current Draw: 0
Motor Coil Resistance: 0.006
Spur/Pinion Ratio: 3.83 : 1
Total Ratio: 12.67949 : 1
Tire Circumference (inches): 14.14 inches (359.08 mm)
Rollout: 1.11:1
Total Motor Speed: 48840 RPM
Vehicle Speed: 51.57 mph (82.83 km/h)
Effective KV Value: 2200
KT constant: 0.61 oz-in/A

OK what about bashing with gearing 51/18 with the 2200 heat wise?

2200KV is retarded on any track, i tryed it at mills ponds and miami r/c and it was just insane no matter how you gear. If you have to buy a motor get the 1512 1800KV motor it works great for the track and ull run all day with it ever getting hot. Assuming you are using the ofna XL id say run a 13T pinion to get the best run time to speed ratio.

BTW: The ofna is really outdated, if you going to race it. Your going to get hammer'ed with it. If you really like offroad racing ull find your self wanting to upgrade sooner than later

Dam hahaha best advice RC wise I've ever got any suggestions for a updated buggy I just. Bought The 2200 will this run hot on 6s 65c batts?and where the track down here I got politely got told my ofna buggy. Looked like a dirt bike on 6s slangin dirt everywhere with the 2650 on 6s but got so hot you could smell the magnet.

6S?!?!!? I completely forgot about that. NO NO NO NO 6S will not work........to much weight ull never get the car to handle and jump correctly....PLUS its going to be OVER KILL and un drivable.......

My advised was based on you using 4S in your buggy........6S will not work at the track dude EVER..........

Best set up is 4S, 5000MAH 4S pack, 1800KV CC, 13 Pinion and call it a day

6S on the track with the 2200KV ull still be smelling the motor........Go 4S

Oh that's why its hard to tune the shocks my set up is too heavy

slimthelineman 03.14.2012 02:50 PM

I run a 6s 1400-1700 kv setup on the track and it's awesome. My 2650 lipos are 475g. Much lighter than a four cell setup. I would agree that six cells on more than 1800kv is not a suitable track setup. But with some planning a six cell setup will work as well if not better than four cells and be lighter and cooler. Just my $.02.

suicideneil 03.14.2012 03:12 PM

Many guys running 6s lipo in their trucks have a hard time with the handling- there is no way you could run that setup in a buggy, on a track; higher the kv, the lower the voltage you want to use. I see several guys like to use quite low kv motors on 6s lipo as that setup is more efficient, though fitting the batts in isn't always easy with 6s so sticking to 4s lipo and a more moderate kv makes sense in that case...

anunaki 03.14.2012 04:23 PM

Wouldn't. 6s be feeding the monster and the 2200?

suicideneil 03.15.2012 09:30 AM

Say what?

The voltage ( battery ) you connect to the esc goes through the esc and to the motor- the esc will 'experience' the same voltage as the motor, if that's what you meant. It's not like the esc steals some of the voltage so that the motor only gets a smaller portion of it; the esc is just a tap to control how fast the motor spins- the more voltage you use, the faster the motor will spin at any given throttle input/amount.

Dude I guess im crazy I think that 2200 will work on a big enough track and run hard, for 10 min on 6s mabe timing on 5 or low and I of course heat sink and fan that sucker down

So what speed are you going to be geared for?

If you want to try it - go ahead. At this point you really don't want to take all the advice you're getting which is:
1. Run 4s and/or
2. Get a buggy motor with lower kv

So - give it go and see for yourself how it works.

anunaki 03.15.2012 11:23 PM

Gave it a go and my gearing is 14/51 got two castle cap packs on my monster and a bec. When I say track I mean by myself not in a class with other people too many rules for me.My rules are no rules show up with somthing suuuped up and show out and thanks all for the good info yeeeehaaaa ride em castle

Big House 04.17.2012 10:10 PM

I run my GTP on 5s with a 2200 and it is insane. You will kill in the straights but will loose it accelerating out of the corners. Way to much torque in the 2200 but great for bashing.
