general brushless question

I'm running a 4000kv hpi vector motor made by castle in my 4x4 with a mamba max pro. I've got the mamba max pro wired so i can run dual battery packs. i'm overgeared a bit. 50/18. I'm running it on 3S.

Today when i was running, i noticed the one set of power wires that weren't plugged into my battery were getting hot...like 120 degrees hot. is this because i'm overgeared?

You mean you have the esc set up to run 2 lipos in parallel?
Were the wires from the battery to the esc hot too, or just the unused ones?

Either way, sounds like the connector was shorting against something metalic ( you should cover it with something if only using one input )- the battery and esc would both be getting pretty warm too if it was just overgearing, and the motor would be cooler generally...

almost, it's wired to run in series, like the traxxas' monster mambas were made. the wires from the esc to the battery were fine, it was the unused side that was getting hot. it has a dean's female covering the plug to keep the male deans from shorting against something while it's not being used.
the motor was getting hot like it was geared too high.
maybe a bad solder joint? i'm kinda stumped.

You're better off to keep your power wires as short as possible.

Maybe put another connector set at the ESC, then use an adapter when you run twin packs.

It does sound like you have a bad connector or solder joint though.

That does tend to make things heat up.

thanks, yeah, i think i'm gonna re-solder the connector to see if that's the issue.

yup, bad solder joint. my buddy soldered this mamba max pro. i expected more out of a guy who used to build golf cart escs for a living! haha
