MGM 160/16 Programing w/Computer?
OK so I'm confused. I have read that the MGM's can be programed w/ a computer and I have also read that they can not. In the sticky thread at the top of the brushless support forum, Mike said last year in may they would be getting the new ones that can be computer programed, but then I read in other threads that they can't be computer programed.
Is there a definitve answer as the if the MGM160/16 can be programd via computer or not. If it can, do you need a special cable or somethig. I am interested in buying one of these and the computer programing feature is really important to me. I hate trying to do the control stick mambo and get it all right. Its always a HUGE pain and makes me crazy. Is ther any large capacity Brushless ESC that can be programmed via computer like the Castle creations ESCs? That is the sweet setup. If it exists, I would be willing to buy it. |
All the Warrior/Micros can be.
|
But there aren't many things that can be programmed with the Warrior controllers, and I'm not sure about the Micros (those are expensive!).
Unless MGM changed their more recent controllers, they are still not computer-compatible. They have the hardware to hook up to a computer, but (as far as I know) MGM is still working on the controller's software to allow it to interface with a computer. |
I have the warrior 7020 and 9920 now and the cable for programing them. I agree there isnt much you can program, but it is still pretty nice. There aent many settings on those speedos anyway. I am looking for something different than the warrors this time. The warriors have been ok, but I just don't love em.
Another downside to the Warriors is the cable is a parrallel cable and it doesn't work on computers wrunning win XP. I have to keep an old copy of win 98 on a spare drive to boot the computer with to use the programing cable. PITA. They need to update that software. So... Sounds like the MGMs still are not computer programable. That sucks...now I have to decide is that a deal breaker for me.... |
I have a micro 2095 and I can program anything from the timing to hard or soft start up ect......I did program my old 1895 ....by adjusting the timing up from 15 degrees to 30....and then in between........after doing this my heatshrink around the controller became noexistant....it melted away.....I eventually went back to 15 degrees, and put new heatshrink around it

one word! mambamaxx! It will have a direct USB connector.

someday.... maybee....
I'll be 2 projects down the road before that ever gets released. When it does though, its probably gonna be really sweet. Just think about how much time they have spent on getting it right before releasing it. But in the meantime... WHat are the easiest options for a good heavy duty brushless esc that is easy to program? It doesn't really matter anymore anyway, I ordered the Quark MonsterPro from Mike this morning. After talking to him about the options it just seemed that it was my best choice from the existing controllers. Only thing Im worried about is that its the new kid on the block and theres no reliability history for. I'm just hoping its as reliable and versitlie as my Quark 33A Ive had forever. |
1 Attachment(s)
USB rules for these applications.. :p

is that one you have??? or one of the spy photos that have been floating around.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it wont be nice, Im just sayin if they dont have a release date yet, who knows how long that will be. It seems like they have been talking about it forever already... |
It's a spy photo. Beta test controllers aren't out yet, but will be very soon. The release date is set for sometime mid to late June, but that might be pushed back since the betas haven't shipped yet.

its a windows program and it says it is supposed so work on XP. but it doesnt. i talked to Mike and it wouldn work for him in XP either. i havent tried compatibility mode. good suggestion though. ill try that next week.
|
Hmm, if it's supposed to work in XP, then that usually means some sort of other program or even a driver conflict. If compatibility mode doesn't work try making sure you are running the program as "Administrator". This will solve any permissions issues. Also, close all other programs; especially firewalls, Antivirus, and Spyware apps (you might want to disconnect from the Internet before you do that though). You might want to see if you have any special printer software running in the background that might be holding onto the port. Lastly, this may sound stupid, but are you sure the port is enabled in BIOS?

Yea... I went through all of that already. The software runs...finds the controller and all seems normal expect that tit cant read or write to the eprom on the controller. Works no isses if I boot the machine using the old win98 on a old hard drive, but i XP no luck. I emailed the manufacturer and they forwarded the email to Mike to deal with. When I talked to him he said the same thing, Theres no reason it shouldnt work, but when he tryed it on an XP machine, same thing. He couldnt read or write to the eprom either.
He said he was going to ask BK when he got a chance, but I havent heard anything back from him yet. I'll let you kn ow if I get it sorted out. I havent had much time to play with it lately, been traveling alot for work. SO when I do, I'll try compatability mode, But I kinda doubt it will make much difference since the software runs no problem, but it for some reason recognize the controller eprom. Someone else told me that the way XP is set up on the parrele port is different from the other versions of windows. The parralel port is a virtual port of some sort. I guess its because its a legeacy type coneection that isn't really used that much and it runs the USB ond other ports more effiecntly that way. I dont know if this is correct or not, just something someone told me when I was mentioning this issue to them. ANyway, I'll let you know if I ever get it straightend out. Honestly I don't have much motivation to spend time on it. If I want to use it, I just boot with the old hard drive and work arround the issue. Kind of a PITA, but easier than spending hours trying to solve an issue the software engineers should be working on. |
Update:
Tried compatability mode. Same thing... Error reading Eprom. |
