Need some opinions on a motor
I'm looking to buy a new brushless motor for my 1/8th truggy. I've had my eye on a few motors, including the castle neu 1515, Tekin T8 truggy, team orion MR8 L, team epic D8, hacker skalar 1/8th motor. That's just to name a few.
I want your opinions on what you are running and how it runs for you, this is going to be a basher but may turn into a track truck. I'm looking for motors under 200. My set up will be a mamba max pro (maybe mamba monster) w/bec or reciever pack if needed and 4s lipo in a mugen mbx5t. |
Cant go wrong with a MMM, Castle 1515 2200kv and a Castle BEC.

I've been running a Tekin RX8 and T8 2000kv combo in my D8T for a while now. It's run flawlessly, plenty of power on 4s and I only bash with it.
I'm in the process of switching out this motor to a CC 1520 so my T8 might be for sale. Good luck, Nick |

As said above for a 4s set up the castle 2200kv combo is tough to beat. Or a Tekin T8 esc w/a Tekin TT2360 2250kv motor for a silky smooth sensored set up. Either option is a great choice. |
I don't think the mmp will be up to the abuse of a truggy. Higher voltage (6s) would also be a better choice for a truggy IMO. For 4s use the castle combo is tough to beat, with probably the lowest price/best performance. A tekin sensored set up may be the way to go if you will be racing. I race my D8T; MMM, Neu 1515 2.5D, 6s (see link in signature), probably a bit overpowered, but I love it.

on the above post No MMP in 1/8 ! |
if the mmp wouldn't be a good choice in a truggy, how about a buggy? I'm limited with money right now since I will be buying a new buggy soon, I was planning on running the motor that's in my truggy now (hacker c50 13L, about 1800 kv) in a buggy and a quark or the mmp so I could us the Mamba monster in my truggy. If youre running a mamba monster, if you had cogging, how did you get rid of it? I'm running 2, 2s 45c lipos in series.

A Mamba Monster ESC is well worth the extra money just for safety/insurance purposes even in a buggy. A dressed buggy will still weigh 9+ lbs and thats a bit much for the MMPro IMO. I bet Castle would even say "not advisable"

You might be able to get away with the MMP in a buggy with a bec and the body opened up. But the esc will still be working pretty hard and won't leave much room for error in gearing. Keep the Hacker but go with a real 1/8 esc (MMM, RX8, or even hobbywing 150) so you're not so close to the limit and then you won't need a bec either. I ran my buggy with the MMM/2200 combo on 4s and it was good power for racing. On 5s it was a bit nutty, just how I like it, but a bit much for racing. Then I went 1518 1800kv on 5s, it got nuttier and I got happier, but I really only bashed with it.
For the Truggy it would be the same story, 4s MMM/2200 combo would be fun, but more just makes it better. I loved my 8T with 1520 1600kv on 5s. Overpowered when you want it but also controllable, more so than the buggy due to the bigger tires. I've never messed with punch or Torque control on any of my rigs either. Btw, my 1518 and 1520 are both up for grabs, both low runtime great condition. |
