Steering Servo for Savage SS
I got a the new Savage SS kit with the .28 engine. I'm be using the Airtronics MX-3S radio and the 2 servos it came with; one for throttle and one for reverse. Not quite sure what serve to use for steering though. I know the one everyone seems to use in just about every car or truck is the Hitec HS-645 MG servo but I was wondering if someone had another one to suggest; maybe one with more torque.

The 945mg has 20 or so more ounces of torque and also has a faster transit time - ( moves from side to side faster).

I use the 5945 as a steering servo. A friend of mine, who drove my savage, thought it was too nervous, but i just love the fast respons it has..

I also use the 5945. It has big torque and is very fast (which I like). Some think it is too fast, but it is great for me. There are a few servos listed on this site that will work great for your savage steering. Anything with over 120 or oz/in of torque should be plenty. You just need to slect your speed.

I have that servo in the web store as well. I agree, it is a nice servo with nice torque, metal gears and a decent price.

What are the specs for this Hitec HS-625 MG ???
I'm thinking of useing two of those on my next project, with independent servo savers. What's the torq of those? Thanks in advance:cool: |

I think your quite a legend yourself with your BL revo, which is by far the best conversion i have seen yet. You simple forgot about the exisistence of the allmighty google.
But, correct me if i'm wrong, are you going to use two servos for steering? Is it a revo? (i know/read your working on a new BL revo right?) Ever considered the new ultrahigh torque TG series of hitec? They are a blast, at 24 kg/cm / .15 seconds They are a bit pricey, (115 dollars) HS-5955TG is the name of this little diamond.. but if your planning on using two other servo's i would consider buying one of these little powerhouses. (lighter, probably stronger than 2 combined) Or are you making a 4 wheel steering? |

But this is off-topic. Sorry for the thread hi-jack, guys. Let's discuss my project elsewhere;) But you're right, it's for the next Revo. And no, no 4WS whatsoever. I wanted two strong steereing servos for the sake of symmetrie. Serum, so you would prefer the 5955TG over the 5945? The price difference isn't much, IMHO. I would also settle for dual HS-645MG. What would you do? If: 1) you would HAVE TO have a dual servo setup? 2) you would go for single I think the dual 645 would be cool, it's only 2 x $35. What do you think? This is a question for legend RC-M-Mike: Can you get this HS-5955TG? Or the 645MG? |
I would take the titanium geared over the metal gear. I am thinking about buying this tg as well (and one steering (5945) servo is more than enough power to turn the wheels with authority). my heavy savage is turning quick and good.
The 5945 is slightly faster than the 5955 version, but with that high torque the 5955 has got, you can make it move the wheels faster than with the 5945 the 5955 can handle 96 kg/second the 5945 can handle 52.6 kg/second. So, the 5955 is simple way more powerfull and can be made much faster than the 5945. I love my 5945. i have got good faith in this 5955 and i will probably get one for my future maxx. Though the 5945 is allready strong enough. A friend of mine thinks my 5945 is too fast, but he uses 60degree / 2 minutes @ 24 volts servo's (on 6 volts) I think the car can't respond fast enough though. |
I have the 5645 in my Revo, and it does a fine job, too.
What do you think about the much cheaper 645MG, in a dual configuration? I mean, space is no issue, and weight is neglectible IMHO. I'll prolly try the Ti geared one, if Mike can get one for me. This is again off-topic, but for me it will come down to these two possibilities: Cheap servo(s) and switch to Lehner, OR, hi-end Servo and stay Feigao for a while. |
I would buy a lehner first.
It's a bigger event to buy a new motor imo than to buy a bit stronger servo. |
Sure, but I need to get a steering servo anyway. I just shredded a 645MG in my Maxx, and I don't want to rely on those Traxxas servos.
