HV 12s ESC. Cutting out on 9s
 

Hi guys.

I took the truck out for a first run in a year.

Everything was running very well on 6s...no electrical issues.

My truck is very undergeared at the moment. It's geared for 45mph on 6s. The motor was running hot, but the esc was ice cold.

I am running an 11t pinion, and will be going up to a 14t for a theoretical top speed of 58mph on 6s.

Anyway.
As I ran it on 9s, the esc began to cut out every time I accelerated and the esc kept on beeping. I have not experienced this before... And I am unsure whats up?

After this happend, I put 6s back on, and it ran absolutely fine... So it was only acting strange on 9s, and it never had any issues before.

Please advise what the possible issues could be.

The reason I am so undergeared, is because I jphave just remove my baja bow ties and fine back to 3.2 badlands. S considerably smaller and lighter tire.

What you describe could be caused by batteries that are crapping out on you - are the cells good?

Also, make sure it's beeping 9 times for auto-lipo - if the esc thinks you have 10s it would do the same thing.

Hmmmm hopefully something so simple will be the problem. I will check the possible culprit lipo. It hasnt been run for a while, but the 3s was working fine on a buggy recently.
I will check tomorrow.

sounds like you are hitting the lvc. 45 is not undergeared for 6s, even my most powerful rigs aren't geared for more than 50

Yes he's hitting lvc - but with good fully-charged batteries on 9s geared for 67mph in his truck I don't think he should be having this problem.

I am going to have to inspect my lipos a little closer. Maybe they are having issues.

The calculator says it was geared for 45 on 6s but it looked like it was doing 30 max which was terribly slow. The motor is running terribly hot and sounds like it is spinning up way too easily. The esc is ice cold too. Which indicated it being undergeared.

My SPIs and badlands are a lot lighter than my baja tires, and the truck is around 14lbs in weight again.

If my charger checks 3 cells in each lipo, then everything should be alright with the lipos right?
They have not really been used much, but have been stores well.

So just to be clear - on 6s the esc is cold and motor spins up fast and hot geared 45, and on 9s esc cuts out on acceleration and motor temp is fine?

I agree it sounds like a battery issue, if not a connection issue. Have you tried re-calibrating the tx to rx? and rx to esc? Just covering bases:lol:

Think I found the issue guys.

I thought I had charged all my lipos but the third lipo was empty. So it was hitting lvc. Hopefully the lipo is ok, I am just charging it again, and it seems to be charging ok. I'll see what happens and keep you posted. I am replacing the 11t pinion to a 14t pinion.

Yes motor got way too hot for such low gearing. It did not even look like it was doing 30mph. And for 6s that is very slow. So I know it was definitely undergeared.

I will try it again and see what happens.
