Pay it forward - Help my school design and build a RC car - donate parts!

Hey guys! I haven't been posting much, just lurking. I am involved in a school project for my Mechanical Engineering RC Baja Team. Basically we are building a car from scratch but need a few things to get started and have a very limited budget. I know I have a lot of old parts but didn't have enough to get started. Basically we're looking for the following:

-1/8 scale diff parts - spur gears, ring gears, spider gears, diff cup, etc. Some of these will be used, some will be for mockup and reference. Buggy and truggy versions alike!

-1/8 scale shocks - front or rear, we can use both

-1/8 scale spindles, drive hubs, etc

-anything else you want to donate!

Last year we placed 4th because we didn't have enough time to design and fabricate a differential. So this year I'm in charge of the design and fab of the three diffs on the car. It's all 1/8 scale based and will be drawn up in AutoCAD and made using what little machinery we have here on campus. PM me if you'd like to donate or post here and I can send you a good mailing address. We can definitely help out on shipping and what-not just let us know. Thanks for looking and thanks to everyone that donates!

Sweet! We could definitely use those!

I've got an ofna ultra center diff with uprights and top plate.

Honestly I'm better off sending it to you to get used before I think up another project!

Do you want the brake stuff too? PM me an address...

Someone at my college saw me driving my savage last year and asked if I built it myself and if I want to join the RC baja team. I was already involved with many projects at the time so I had to decline, though I did end up doing a little consulting at the end. (they made a terrible design...don't know if you saw the Montana Tech car last year? laughable.)
But they gave it a go with minimal effort I feel.

Good luck! Should be a fun project if your team puts the time into it!

That would be great! If you want to toss in the brakes that would be good too!

Sending you a PM right after this with address...

I didn't see the car but that sounds awful. Hope they come back, usually teams bounce back well. Thanks! We are aiming for first this year providing I design and fab the diff within budget and time constraints.

Sent address but no parts yet guys! We could really use some diffs!

gtxracer 12.05.2012 08:11 PM

Anyone have an extra diff?

It's that time again! Last year we had a good run but I want to start fresh. Last year's team used a T-Maxx as a basis and built the car last minute. This year things will be different. We're basing everything off 1:10 scale parts and using 2.2 sized tires and wheels. Here's last years car:

What we are looking for so far:

1/10 4wd diffs - 4wd slash or similar vehicle
Good 1/10 scale shocks
Slash 4x4 driveshafts

I'm hoping to get Team Tekin on board this year and have them supply the majority of the electronics and battery.

Specs so far on new car:

4wd, with center diff
1/10 scale
2.2/2.8 tires and wheels (thinking Badlands)
Axial Exo type of outlay and design
Light as possible
High clearance
2 lipo cells
maybe sway bars

We're open to other suggestions and donations. This year we have a bigger budget so we can buy parts but we are more than happy to take donated parts!

BUMP!!!!

We could really use a few things! We take donations but also have a small budget to buy these items:

Radio and receiver
Strong steering servo
Motor/ESC (working with Tekin on this)
Rod end joints for turnbuckles
Tires, prefer 2.8 diameter wheel
All thread or threaded rod, 4mm or 5mm

I will post an update soon! We are moving along quite well!

I have a few old radios and receivers laying around and would happily donate a set to a good cause.

That would be great Mike! I'm sending you a PM!

Any update on that Mike? Sent you a PM a few days ago.

My pc went down at the end of last week, so I am stumbling through with a laptop and web-based email for the time being - slowing me down a bit and I apologize for the delayed response.:)

BP-Revo 02.01.2014 04:06 PM

Well that would explain the email delay. Haha.
