The Axial AE-2/Sidewinder ESC for brushed motors only, can this controller be used safely with external BEC (Castle of course) and run on 3s ?
I'm finding mixed answers on this Q.

Will be paired with a 65T brushed Lathe motor geared very conservatively in a 4.5lb-ish Crawler

Thank You

I run the Sidewinder SCT on 3s with a CC 10 amp with the 3800kv with no problems... If that helps.

I have did that as well, potent combo to. This ESC supposedly is a 2s Max voltage and it's brushed only. I assume it's rateings aren't as robust because thats were the argument seems to be.
I've read guys doing it, but considering the source's and how some guys are self-procaimed experts I thought this would be the safer bet.

Thx Corey & FU Harold

Well I decided to do with selling the stock ESC and going with a Castle SV2.

I would still like a answer to the question just for reference and curiosity, Thx.

Gday,
I've been running the Axial AE-2 esc in my Tamiya MAN truck for approx 9 months with the C/C's 10 amp ext bec. I removed the esc from my Honcho as I changed it to brushless. The truck runs a 3s lipo with a 65t cralwer motor through a 3 speed shifting box.
I asked the same question on rccrawler and alot of the guys were doing it.

Pete

They say it is fine to run 3s with the CC bec.

Truck gears:
Low gear - 1:32.49 (1)
2nd gear - 1:17.66 (2)
Top gear - 1:10.66 (3)
10T motor pinion, 65T brushed can, 3s lipo (3000MaH) & the AE-2 with cc 10 bec.
With the trailer, I haul 10kg, (2 x 6 packs beer + 2 longnecks). Coopers. I walk behind it with the DX3C & change all 3 gears on the fly on the footpath.
When I get to the main road, all the traffic is stuck in gridlock. Trucks, buses, cars etc. Via footpath, I drive my truck to the bottlo, inside the bottlo, load my truck, drive to counter and pay for beers.
Driving it home, most truck drivers blast horn or yell so they can take a shot. Car drivers stuck in traffic ignore me & think I'm an idiot, fool people thinking they own the footpath mutter obscenities at me, mums & prams stop due to jnr wanting a galk at the truck. I laugh mate at all of this. Such the joy of a Tractor truck.
I suppose this is my story to the AE2 esc on 3s with the cc bec properly used.

hooppjs Thank you for the write up! I wanted to ask you about the truck. Add some more photos if you have them.

Pretty funny story too. I'm glad you laugh them off and enjoy your truck:yes:

No worries fella's, thanks. I hope Bondonutz doesn't mind. I assume your all mates by the way you speak to each other.:yipi::lol:

Tamiya trucks are sweet. Good break from the round & round fast stuff.

Harold's not my mate, he's just the RCM whipping boy AKA Seed gobbler/Rusty Trombone facilitator .

Nice rig and good to see it's used properly hauling beers !
