mamba monster issue
So a while back i had a mamba monster that i had sent in for warranty replacement. I received a new one back, re-soldered my CC bullets, stuck it in its box and its been sitting unused for 4 months now.
I finally finished the project it was going in the other day and was doing some testing. Ran it on 5s with a turnigy 4168 2650kv motor and it ran fine with no issues, but my motor hit 170F and i stopped and put the truck away. Tested it again and the motor got hot again. Each time i ran it i only went for about 5-7 minutes. I then took the CC1520 out of my truggy and tossed that in. I ran it once with no issues except traction, again 5-7 minutes. I swapped out the truggy tires and put on some big joes on i had. Now i get really bad stuttering when i try and drive it. I can pull the throttle it moves 2 feet and stops, pull it again same thing. I recalibrated the ESC, Rebound my radio, tried a different receiver, Pulled the 1520 apart to inspect for any damage (Its brand new), No damage. I know your not supposed to do this, but without the pinion I'm able to rev it. as soon as i toss the pinion back on stutters. I've even tried with and without a servo. Took the motor out, Drive train spins freely, center diff spins fine, both front and rear diffs move freely and rolls fine also. I don't know where to go from here, It had Firmware 1.32 on it when i got it back and that's what i had been running. I then downgraded to 1.24 and i still have the same issue. Thoughts? try the latest... 1.38?

Does it only do that when the big joes are on? Maybe try to up the start power setting.

The fact it happened when you changed to big joes (larger diameter tire, higher overall top speed) tells me that you are geared too high.
Use a smaller pinion or switch back to truggy tires. The high temps on the 2650kv motor also point to too high of gearing. You should gear for a top speed of about 45mph or you will have temp problems with continuos running. Anything above that is considered "speed runs" and requires cooling down between runs. |
It did the same with the truggy tires, forgot to add that. I'm geared 12/51 and I have no smaller pinions, my diff ratio is 3.308, weigh maybe 10lbs? And iirc geared for low 40s
I'll try start power and then try a different firmware when I get off work tonight. Also I ran the turnigy motor on 5s and my truck is way to big for that little of a motor is why it got hot, I was just testing out the system and new back up motor. |
I'd double check all of your solder connections. One bad solder joint can cause these problems.
Could very well be as the 1520 would pull a lot more current and highlight any bad solder joints... |
Everything is new unmolested castle stuff, but I will check the solder on the motor wires also.
Thanks for the input! |
