2 brand new Emaxx builds
I figure I would show everyone what I'm doing this weekend. I'm going to be building/upgrading two new trucks for a friend to give to his two sons for Christmas. I'm just taking 2 new emaxx's and upgrading the drive train to make it hold up a little better to the brushless power. They kids will start off with NiMH, but lipos will be on order once they get used to the speed and want to go faster. I'm also going to go ahead and do the rpm upgrades while I have the suspension apart to do the hybrid diffs and all the CVD's. These 2 boys have a BMX track in there backyard so these trucks will see plenty of air time. I'm sure I will spend lots of time repairing and upgrading the trucks as they break stuff. This is only the second time I have gotten to unbox a rc vehicle, just like that new car smell :applause:

Yea I was trying to get the father to let me build 2 trucks just like my runner, but the price tag shocked him a little. I told him eventually he will spend that much once these 2 are upgraded enough to hold up to the BMX track. :) I'm sure these 2 trucks will make their Christmas morning awesome.
Ok, some of you know I haven't been exactly thrilled with the FLM bulkless stuff. But with the available options for bulletproofing for the best price and availability of parts, it was the best option in this case. Now comes the diffs that come with these. They didn't come with any oil, and the only shims included are already in the diffs. Can anyone tell me what diff fluid combo has worked well for them with this setup? Also, the diffs felt a little too tight to me, but of course there was no fluid in them. Will the fluid make them feel better or have yall had to shim these before installation? Thanks for any help guys. |
10k front, 7k rear.
Never go off whether someone else has shimmed "X" product or not, every diff/gear mesh should be checked individually and dealt with accordingly.:yes: Don't forget to change out the pinion to compensate for the lower diff ratio. I would shoot for a 35-40mph top speed using those Nimh's. It's an awesome thing you are doing for the boys, hopefully they let you on the bmx track! |

Thanks guys. I had someone feel the diffs that is more familiar with the way the should feel and he said they felt perfect. The only thing I have ever run in a maxx is the UE 6 spyder diffs and I got them used and haven't had a single issue with them. So I haven't actually had to deal with diffs and the assembly of them when they were actually going to be run and not just sitting in a shelf queen. I did forget about compensating for the diffs though, thanks Paralyzed. I have a big collection of pinions, so It shouldn't be an issue. Just got back from the LHS with fluids, so hopefully I won't have to make another trip. Time to start getting the trucks back together with the new parts.

How old are the boys that you are building these for?
Who's gonna get the 2nd truck you build? Lol......:whistle: Or are you upgrading both at the same time? I'm sure they will be very excited. And having the upgrades from the very beginning will be awesome. It just wouldnt be the same if you beat on these trucks for 6 months and then did all the up's. Like 80% of us generally do, building as we break or upgrading as we go. |
Ok, making some progress now. Nothing like taking apart brand new trucks. Just for giggles I had to see how these would look in my collection, and I must say I think they would fit in well once I get the new parts installed.
The kids are 12 and 10 I'm doing the same thing to both trucks, so when I'm done the only difference will be the bodies. Paralyzed; I might have to take back what I said about not liking the FLM hybrids in my past post. These are going together great and once together are feeling very good. I got one truck done today (still have a few adjustments to make to it), hopefully the other will be done tomorrow.

You need to pick up a set of Hudy tools for all the work you do.
If I had your wife's # I'd tell her to buy you this for Christmas: http://www.hudy.net/xhudy/products/p...47022ac3f441a8 That's the set I have, love it. I've tried every tool manufacturer out there, Hudy is the best. And I bought a 2.5mm Hudy ball end driver to get those pesky bottom screws out of EMaxx bulkheads, so much easier now. Justin |

Wow Justin, I just looked at the price of those and was a little shocked. If they don't say Starrett or Snap-on on them I would have a hard time spending that kind of money on them. My Dynamite tools have worked fine for me so far, plus they were all free with a truck I bought (sold the truck, kept the tools :lol:). I actually do have a few Hudy tools but I never seem to grab them to use, I guess the pink handles on the Dynamites just draw me in. But since you (Justin) still need to get me a Christmas present this year, those would be great. :lol::wink:
