I think the revo is done...
4 Attachment(s)
OK. I think Ive finished the brushless revo Ive been working on. I'm looking for feedback on the setup. Anyone see any major setup issues with this. Just looking for some input from some of you who have already been there/done that.
Here is what I did: -Gorillamaxx G2R -MIP CVDs -Emaxx Tranny (right now stock w/2 speed using the mini 2060 servo. see pics) -Feigao 9XL -Quark Monster Pro 125B ESC -Robinson Dual Disk Slipper Geared 66/24 -Stock Steering servos (2) -3s and 2s 8000mah Lipos plugged in series for 5s Still to be done: -Steel Idlers for the tranny -maybe single speed conversion (I'll see after I run it for a while) -Possibly a small fan on the esc -Upgrade servos to Hitec 5925MGs (I had one already so I went cheap and just ordered a second one thats not in yet) They should be more than sufficient. 130oz each and .08sec speeds. I think its a pretty standard setup as far a this forum is concerned. I was looking for some parts at the LHS earlier today and was describing what I was building and the way the guys there sounded it was like I was putting a man on the moon. I brought it in from the car to show them. They were pretty amazed. They hadn't seen anything like this in there. Just a few brushless emaxx's (and most of those Novaks) If anyone sees anything that I need to do to make it better please chime in. I'm gonna take it out his weekend for a maiden voyage and any tweaks I can do before then would be good. BTW: Thanks to all of you guys on this forum for all of the input and help with getting this all together. You have already provided a wealth of knowledge to me. |

That looks really nice!
Not much to add really - looks good as-is. Maybe replace the dual steering servo with a single strong one (~180oz.in@6v) and use the blank spot for a receiver box? BTW: my LHS is the same way. When I was building my first Revo, I would go in and get some Revo parts and some Emaxx parts (for the tranny) and they would ask if I had two trucks or what. I had to bring mine in too and they also were pretty impressed since they hadn't seen anything more than HVs. You'd think that they would be a little more familiar with the R/C world, but they act like noobs. |
I thought that going to a single servo was not recomended.?.? I tought about just getting the new Hitec servo 330oz servo and going single, but I read that it wasnt good to have only one servo and that it softened the streering to much. Not because of the servo, but because of the flex in the steering components.

looks good
i agree with Brian that you could just get one strong servo instead of using 2. let us know how that Quark runs please |
A singe is really the best way to go. Its gonna flex either way, whether a single or dual setup. The 5595 would be a great idea and if it flexes to much a aluminum setup like what Mike sells is a good idea. I have a single setup with only 180oz. servo and it flexes...

I've found a single steering servo works better than two smaller ones, as long as the torque is equal to or greater than the dual setup. The stock 2055 servos are 80 oz.in each. So, anything above 160 oz.in will work fine. Personally, I like around 200 oz.in or torque. IMO, anything over that is wasted really, and that extra torque will cost you a little bit in battery power. Plus, going single eliminates possible servo fighting if the linkage is a bit out of adjustment.
As far as steering flex, get the Proline single steering arm and the heavy duty servo saver spring. Some people simply cut one of the stock steering arms off when going single, but that definitely will flex, expecially with a high torque servo. |
That is pretty nice. Il ike the looks of it. It looks like it should have some go in it to. hmm got a video.

I'll see if I can get a camera on next week. I haven't even really gotten it out yet. Tryed runing yesterday and the pinion cam loose after only about 30 seconds. I took a apart last night and ground a flat on the shaft so that should solve that problem. From the short run I did get in, it looks like its gonna be nice and fast. I was crusing around 20mph punched it and pulled wheelie instantly. Gonna get it out again tomorrow.

Ran it again this weekend and blew the plastic idler gear almost instantly. Only one run up and down the street before it went. I never even got to punch it, but wow... tons of power. Nothing like my Novak HV E-maxx thats for sure!

Very nice! IMO you should make some type of gaurd for tose lipos, dont want them to get damaged!

I thought about a Carbon Fiber plate on 2 sides of the Lipos but I don't know where to buy just a plate of CF. Anynone know where to get it?
