Question about castle warranty

so I bought a new mamba monster v3 august of last year. 2 months before my warranty expired I ran into issues with my esc and sent it in and received a new esc with my 6.5mm bullets in the box.

Well now I'm having issues with the new one I received, really bad cogging, struggles with any motor I have (1717,1512,1520) on 4s to 6s 40c 5000mah batteries. I pulled it out of my truck fearing it was gonna let out the magic smoke. I checked all my solder joints and tested the motors with my other mmv3 in my MT and everything is fine.

My question is when receiving a new esc does it doesn't extend the warranty at all does it? I'm not too thrilled to shell out another $76 for a out of warranty repair and shipping.

Setup;
Mugen mbx5t prospec
Mamba monster
1520
Zippy 5s 40c 5000mah
Geared: 16/46 for roughly 43mph

Have you tried different firmwares? I know that the newer ones seem to have poor start up procedures. I think 1.24 is the most popular, not a 100% sure on that, but someone who knows better than I will come and chime in shortly.

Is this a new issue or have you changed something? I mean, was it working great and then suddenly started cogging and struggling, or has been this way since you've gotten it, or did you change something recently? (gearing/firmware/tires/rebuild diffs/bearings/water running/etc)

It is a new issue. I have tried different firmwares but I always stick with 1.24 for the start up issues. I havent changed anything. All my truggy tires are about the same size. Gearing hasn't changed. All my temps are usually really good and I never run my gear in wet grass or weather for fear of water issues.

How old is the replacement?

Just to clarify did you shell out $76 before as you say you sent the old one in before the warranty expired.

I just looked at my invoice from castle and it says 6/29/2012. No I didn't pay before because I was still under my 1 year warranty. I bought it brand new from a main on 7/30/2011.

It may seem like its been a long time but I haven't even had much run time on any of my rigs due to work and lovely western Washington weather. I have maybe 6-9 5s runs and 3-5 6s runs, That's guesstimating high also

The warranty is good for 1-year from the original date of purchase. So if we replaced it under warranty in 2012, but was purchased in July of 2011 then it would be out of warranty. If you paid the $70 non-warranty replacement you would get a new ESC and new one-year warranty; or you can upgrade to the Mamba Monster 2 for $105.

Well it looks like I'm out of luck and on my own with this one...maybe its time I try a hobby wing or hk 150a esc in my rigs

I wonder if someone from HW or HK would reply to one of your threads if you had a problem?? Castle isn't doing anything wrong here, rules are rules.

I understand hw and hk have poor support, but I would rather have issues with $80-$90 esc's and barely use them , not buy something brand new for $164 and have nothing but issues.

Ever sense I switched over to electric from nitro 3 years ago I've been on the castle bandwagon. I've had awesome customer support from, but I have also had poor and once down right rude customer support ranging from email, forums and phone calls. Every rig I own; sc, 2 mts, truggy, buggy, mini truggy and mini buggy all have castle electronics.

Hey cerberus,

Have you tried updating to the newest software rev? The 1.24 works better with some setups, the new software works better with some setups.

Also, poor starting can be due to bad solder joints, short in the motors, etc. Might be a problem other than the ESC. Have you tried a different motor to see if the issue is the ESC?

Thanx!

Patrick

If you haven't used your truck that much are your batteries ok?

There is a limit to any warranty - at this point your a long time since your original purchase date and a non warranty replacement is still only $70.

CerberusVI 03.14.2013 04:38 PM

I have tried all the available firmware through castle link, I have tried my 1717, 1520 and 1512, As well as my turnigy 2560 6pole and they all do the same. My batteries do get used in my truggy and I don't have any issues with my other mmv3 and 1520 in that setup

I haven't had time to go through all my barriers and esc's to resolder all my castle 6.5mm bullets. I will try and resolder everything tonight and report back

CerberusVI 03.15.2013 07:08 PM

Took some time, but I went and re soldered my 5s, 6s, mamba monster and my 1717. Still have the same issue. Ill have some time on Monday to put it all back together and try to take my truck for a quick test run.

I also tried my traxxas 2.4ghz radio as well ad my flysky gt3b and recalibrated the esc both times and still have problems.

Have you thought of eliminating the steering servo as a source of the problem? Bad ones can make ESCs do some funky things.
