Best outrunner in 2.2 crawler ?

Hi !

What size/kv outrunner would be best in a 2.2 comp crawler ?
And would it be possible to use a bigone indd and eliminate the gearbox or would this casuse to mutch tq twist ?/if that works how big does the motoer need to be an kv ?.

oh and how big outrunner do i need to convert a 1/5 scale mcd racerunner to bl?
any outrunner thats built to replace a 26-30cc 2-stroke would work right ?

For a true comp crawler you wouldn't go brushless. Holmes brushed motors are the way to go.

For a basher/scale truck the sensored tekin work well

Check out holmeshobbies he sells what you need and you can checkout Kvs etc.

Align to a 35t about 2000kv to 1800

I used a 28 series outrunner to power my 2.2 crawler. Used a pede metal gear trans. 32p spur and pinion. 833kv motor on 3s lipo and a sidewinder esc. It ran great, way more power than 2 brushed 540 motors. I had to run 32p gearing as the motor has a 5mm shaft. I used a lower kv motor cause I could not get as much reduction with the 32 p gearing. Think I ran a 14t pinion and a 54t spur. So only around 4:1 ratio. Pyhsical motor size was only about the same as a 540. Pretty sure it was a 2826 size motor.

I have run 22 series axi motors with a 1.9 rig and a sidewinder. Had plenty of power, but startup took a bit of tweaking with the esc to get just right. Those motors are a bit small.

I agree that sensored setup would be good, I ran a noval 13.5 in a basher/crawler that I made. Did 20mph and crawled very well.

Sensored outrunner would be the best. Some have made them, but I would like to see a factory example. Castle mmpro would be a great sec to do this with.

I have a 35/48 12pole 850kv outrunner :)
So if i gear it 14/56t 32p it would work great in a 2.2 crawler then ?

You need to figure out what top speed you want to run.

Then plug the numbers into BrianG's calc and see what ratio you will need. You should already know the tire height, axle ratio and trans ratio. that makes the pinion and spur the only things you can change.

What esc are you going to use?

i have a homes hobby outrunner im my, its true the controll and power output is less than a brushed setup, but its feather light and im happy with it

i tried an 35/48 850kv outrunner with the shaft trued down to 3,2mm to fit stock 48p piniongears.

and i got 1,5min runtime Before the top two gears in the center gearbox was destroye :) this motor's got some serius torque:surprised: i changed back to stock motor and put it in a spare gearbox that i had.

so i have to use this motor in a nother rc-car lol.
