New Traxxas X-Maxx
Looks like Traxxas is approaching the large truck market here. Very interesting!

Ohh nice * take my money *

I wonder why traxxas decided not to use Castle Creations proven esc and motor combos?
|
Yeah, and what's up with the tone of that "welcome departure from Castle-based power systems" in the RC Car Action article? That's not very friendly, is it?

Looks great, but also looks like a nightmare to make parts for, as everything is molded and integrated. A large part of the Maxx trucks continued success is the HUGE aftermarket parts availability IMO.
|
Agree 100%. Traxxas lock down their forum and shun any discussion on any other manufacturer, but do not realise that the massive aftermarket industry for the Maxx is what has kept their sales rolling for well over a decade... People see hopped up masterpieces, say, I want one of those, and where do they start? A dead stock Maxx from Traxxas... They are silly, but hey, that's Traxxas...
|
The magazines are in the pocket of the advertisers - they make little to no money from the actual sale of the magazine. It's all about advertising - how much space does traxxas buy vs castle.
Patrick won't comment but guessing that castle want happy with that weight with a mmm v2 (although I bet it would be ok) and traxxas couldn't hit the price point with an xl. Would have likely needed castle to restart making the 1520. Wouldn't that be nice. |
I know that the deal Castle would have with Traxxas would be lucrative, but I don't envy Castle for having to put up with Traxxas. I have found Castle to be amazing with their customer service, and I have found Traxxas to be the complete opposite of the spectrum...

Looks like a big slash. Lame. Plastic motor mount? I figured out that while the Maxx was awesome when it was released. 2001? Now they just make big toys. While Losi and Mugen, Xray and others are making great hobby grade stuff. I can't believe they are leaving castle. I remember a while back Patrick said that they weren't answering his messages.

Like Mike said it's not really something to upgrade being a turd but though I'm sure Mike can find a way, it fits me perfect as a market segment though as I just bought a house with a big backyard and a balcony off the bedrooms 3rd floor, so I won't have to go down 3 fllors and roll it over lol

Does any one knows the material used for this skid plates?
|
Why didn't they use the xo-1 1717 combo in this? It seems to be perfect in a truck this size.
|
Looks like the size of the motor is the same as the X01 motor, but just without the finned can?
I think the ESC from the X01 was not waterproof? |
Suppose it is the XO1's in the new truck.
The X01 motor is otherwise known as the Castle 1717. Very nice motor, no doubt about it. I have one in my SuperMaxx and it's missile fast - nearly uncontrollable unless you have a very light touch on the trigger. That's an 11lb RTR truck. You bump that up to 20lbs, make the tires 50% bigger and....eh, maybe not so impressive I think. But, put the power setup I've got in my 5ive (12s MGM & Lerner = 20hp) in there and now we'd have something. I'm eager to see this new Maxx, but I don't anticipate being overwhelmed by performance. How it's drivetrain holds up to 20hp will be interesting to see  |
The 1717 is a nice motor for a 20 lb truck with 5th scale wheels. It's not crazy overpowered but it works very well.
