Suggestions for a new E-Maxx controller??
 

After a crash that dislodged my MGM 12012 and shorted it :031: , I'm looking for motor and controller recommendations for my E-Maxx.

I loved the way it ran with a 8s and 3s Lipo's
Just bashing around the yard and street.
Mostly stock type setup. Have parts on hand to upgrade if something breaks.

I can go to 5s Lipo's with what I have on hand and think I would prefer that.

Looks like a 7XL or 9L probably with the new Quark 125B.

Any comments about this combo?


And how do I get my old controller fixed for a spare?

On 5S lipo, i would advice you a lower KV motor. the 9L is too hot. the 7XL would be closer, but it will be relative hot, considering you live in Texas.. :)

Something in the 2000 rpm/v range would be great. A basic XL2000 would be nice too.

An 8S on 3S lipo is not the first setup i would have recommend for use in an e-maxx..

I think you might like a 8 or maybe a 9XL depending on what you want, runtime or speed.

that's what i said, go for the 2000 Kv range on 5S lipo..

A quark 125B would be best for you!

I think the 8xl you will be happier with. What kind of upgrades do you have on the truck? the 8xl is a powerful set up and has a problem with weak links.

The difference in preformace between the 8 and the 7XL are allmost alike, but the runtime with the 8XL is better. and it get's less hot.

I would advice you to take the 8XL over the 7XL on 5S i used my 7XL on 14 cells in a light emaxx and it got pretty hot.

I have an 8xl and a bk9920 running on 14 GP3700's and coolhand is right about the week links. I striped my 14mm wheels in just a few mins. And bent the wheelie bar because it wheelies so hard. I am going to 5s LiPo's and things should get wild. :004: I sugest the 8XL.

That depends on the rimms though, with RPM rimms, you wouldn't have stripped them so fast..

23 mm hexes and no worries except it coming loose.

I can also vouch for the RPM rims. Mine have not stripped yet and I've run through quite a few charges on my 8XL with 14 cells during heavy acceleration and stopping. You just gotta make sure the nuts are tight! Even locknuts loosen on the left side, so loc-tite is necessary.

I striped velocity 40's, But now I have 23mm's with no problems. I also have trouble with the rims getting lose, wonder why?

I've ordered both a 7XL and 8XL to play with.
Also ordered a HPI R40 road car to convert to brushless. I guess we'll see how that goes............ 4 1/2 lbs 5s Lipo 7Xl ought to be a hoot.:005:

Any sugestions what gear to start with on the 8XL and standard Spur (66t)
Have 16.18.20 pinions.

I would say start with the 16 and work your way up keeping an eye on the temps. When the temperature of your esc and battery gets around 110-120 Fahrenheit that will be real close. If the esc gets hot it is under geared and if the batteries get hot it is over geared.
