7XL / 9918 savage gearing Q
 

What is the maxximum gearing i could use on the savage with a 16 or 18 cell setup. with the 7XL and the 9918?

I wil use the mechanical brake, and the two speed automatic transmission

I would guess the gears you selected in your calculator should work fine. I wouldn't go much higher for bashing around, but if simply wanted to get crazy speed, I know Alex of BK Electronics has had his savage over 70 mph! I think he uses the 30150 controller and quite a few cells (don't remember how many). I would imagine on 18 cells, you could approach these speeds in the right conditions.

Did you see, that the wheel diameter isn't right in the calculator?

(don't know if you base it on speed or anything..)

Do you know what motor he is using? 70 mph.. That's an undecent speed for an MT isn't it.... ? ;)

I didn't check the formulas or anything (assumed it to be accurate, considering the source). What is the actual wheel diameter? I usually figure low 30s for 12 cell setups, mid 30s for 14 cell setups, high 30-low 40s for 16 cell setups, etc. Based on these voltages, you can safely reach higher speeds (obviously you have more available power). According to the calculator, you would be in the low 40s, which should be pretty safe. Especially with a two speed and mechanical brakes.

Wheels are about 145 mm (excl the balooning) I just threw that calculator online, without looking at the numbers.. :)

It will go on 16 or 18 cells.

I will use it on road mostly, and sometimes some racing in the woods.. (no track)

That changes the rollout quite a bit. Still, for on road it will be pretty safe. Maybe start with a 15 or 16 pinion instead of the 18.

That still would be one fast MT...

Did you calculated with 16 or with 18 cells?

16 cells will get you around 40 with the 16 pinion. 18 cells will get you near 45mph with the same pinion and near 50mph with an 18 pinion. Too fast if you ask me!

Really too fast, but nice to shoot a movie off!

the plettenberg did 40 mph, on a 20/51 gearing.. I have got high hopes on this 7XL

You just might be crazier than HotnCold. That 3s LiPo on the mamba 8k has to be just plain rediculous!

One word;

Unstable in a mini-t.. Way to powerfull, got to lower it badly, A heck of a lot fun, but my rear spoiler on the T is about .8 cm shorter, after an half hour of fun..

That mini-T must fly..

I have a Mamba 8000kv on lipoly 3s on a XRay M18 (Touring Car).

Don't know how fast those Mini-Ts are but on the M18 its too fast to control even at half throttle.

By the way can I run 18 cells on a 7XL?? I might want to get me one for testing and one more thing, if I do buy a 7XL can you sell me the bullet plugs that fits the schulze controller?

They are 3.5 mm plugs. I think i may have got three (used) laying around, if mike can't get them..
