Motor Troubles
 

After a month or so of trying I seem to have wrecked a brand new Feigao 9L 5mm motor. I biffed the first soldering job, so not thinking, I cut the wires down a cm or so, well now I'm into the coated area. I tried using aspirin to remove the coating and all, but no luck. I have a finished 1/8th buggy conversion just waiting for this sucker, and with school out im dieing:035:

I just soldered them up, and I got to the programming stage, and well I get the first beep, but when I lay on the throttle, no more beeps? I tried another rx and switching locations of steering/throttle, but to no prevail. I'm also worried about the connections in general.

The aspirin thing seems to have worked, but its very unclean and the connections are holding, but i can't make it to the expertise job i've done in the past.


Mike, any possibility I could send it back to you for a lookover and resoldering with 5.5mm connectors? Im guessing you have more experience than me. I really don't want to have to buy a new motor, and I shouldn't since I still have 3-4 cm's of wire left.

Did you reverse the throttle and see if that helped?

Reverse as in reversing the radio, or literally pushing the trigger forward? I tried the second one, but nothing. I'll try the other one later on.

Great news the car runs! Bad news, about 5 of my 12 cells started spewing out a nice clear substance. I've had the cells a good year only, ohh well. An excuse to upgrade to the latest nimh cell.

Do they still charge fine? That was battery acid BTW.

I haven't tried charging the cells, I figured if its spilling battery acid out the cells are as good as gone?

I always thought the nimhs and nicds was a dry cell batteries.

Who knows, I picked up 11 new IB4200's and an IB3800 (stupid IB stuck it in the 4200 package). This is not my lucky day, according to the LHS they can't do anything until the manager is there on monday. In the meantime, im monitoring the old cells while i cycle them, and i'll stick them in the buggy while I watch closely.

I believe CHC is correct. Acid batteries are used with lead plates as far as I know and any cell venting would cause a lot more trouble than a little leakage...

Re~Mix: Did I read that right? Whoever made the pack used a single 3800 cell in a pack of 4200s?

Well I did a few test runs lately, and the old batteries seem to be doing alright actually. So i now have brand new 4200's anyways, not such a bad thing. After running for a few minutes I noticed that the controller heated up pretty quickly, and the motor was running fine and cool. Im using a digital temp gun, so things are accurate. Its a 9L / 9920 geared 13/51. I think things are good, but I know that the sketchy soldering connection between the motor and controller could cause excess unwanted heat (and a loss in power) correct? If I do end up needing a new motor, I'd probably have to wait for a sale or something, since with the money I'll have wasted for 2 motors could of paid for a nicer Hacker B50L or Lehner.
