Choosing a BL system
I have decided to take the step into BL. I currently have a stock maxx that has al bulkheads, RPM arms, and ti tie rods. My next step will be drive line upgrades and G2 chassis. After that, I plan to install a brushless motor and controller. What are the deciding factors used in choosing a motor and contoller? I don't think the Novak HV system is what I want. The batteries I have are GP3300-6cells. I think the most I would run is 6-7 cell packs. Mostly bashing, but may get into racing in the future.

Weight of the truck, driving needs and cell count are all deciding factors, as well as terrain and tires. Most go with the 9L, as it runs very well on 12 cells and can be juiced up to 14 cells for more power. The Lehner xl motors (2800 or 3100) also work very well for these vehicles. the 9L is a much more viable option when the motor clamp/heat sink comes into play, because the fear of popping the can is eliminated.

hey mike, would the runtime increase if i ran a 9L on12 cells insted of an 8L on 12 cells? how much more runtime would i get?
|
Yes, you would get a slight increase in runtime. I couldn't tell you exactly, as it depends on batteries and things like this, but you will get a longer run. On 14 cells, you get a longer runtime and there is no power sacrifice. The 9L runs plenty strong on 12 cells, though.

think i should stay with the 8L? im only gonna run 12 cells
|
Either one works fine. The 8L is slightly faster, while the 9L has a slightly longer runtime.

As far as terrain goes, now it is mostly grass. I am thinking of doing a dirt track in the back yard. Stock tires now, thinking of mashers down the road. The weight of the truck now is around 11.5. With the planned chagnes, it should be around 9-10 lbs. Does any of these change the slesction?

Spymaxx,
Tall grass will require a lower gearing, but your truck won't be all that heavy, so either motor will work fine. 8L or 9L will "Git R Done". |
Nice Mike

8L on 12 cells, i love it!
