Motor for XXXS G+
Hi all.
Buying an XXXS G+, want to make something of a rocket out of it. I'm planning on using 2S Lipo or 6-7 cells most of the time, with 3S Lipo for insane speed runs. How does a 380C-8t sound? I know on 3S it would be rather hot, but just for speed runs i figure it would be ok. What kind of speeds could i expect on 2S with that? I think 3S should push it over 60 mph if i have the space/control/surface for it, but in practice i think such speed and power is unusable. I was going to run my Nemesis 6S but i think thats just too much motor for it, and it's also pretty bulky (not to mention the lack of runtimes this motor will run). To be honest, i think i will sell that motor (if anyone wants it, 5mm shaft with 3 pinions...shoot me a PM). What i want from this is a replacement for my rather old Nitro tourer. Would it be better to go with maybe a 7 or even 6 turn version and not bother with running 3S for speed runs? I think i would prefer the runtimes and slightly added torque of the 8 turn though - but then it might be too much torque for 4 skinny TC tyres? Could the 7 be a better choice? So far i think the 380C-8 should be a nice choice, but i just wanted to check with you gurus before i spend the money. The 5000ish RPM/Volt rating should give me a nice balance of high speeds with mind bending acceleration i hope? lol help me out here :) - Tom |
On 2s it will do around 45 mph and 60 mph on 3s, you are correct. Be warned though, it might get hot on 3s easily. The 380c 9t will handle 3s much better and it will still have insane speed/torque or 3s. The best combo would be the 380c 13t on 4s lipo. It will do 60 mph not just for speed runs, but for every day running.

Hmm...4S.
What sort of cells/runtimes are you seeing? Any idea on the current draw (i.e. can i use cheap cells lol)? |
The current draw will be very low. About 10 amps average and 25 amps continuous at full throttle. I don't think it will pull more than 60 amp spikes. The 13t is a pretty efficient motor. I was thinking you could run 20c 2100 or 2500 cells w/ 15 minute runtimes or a max amps 12c 4000 for 25 minutes. Check the dimensions to make sure they will fit in the battery tray.

What about the 3000mah Maxamps pack?
I have the 2S2P version which is about 2mm higher than a standard sub-c pack...would that work OK? (the 4S version) |
It would work, but I wouldn't expect it to have a whole lot of punch. It can only handle 30 amps continuous and 36 amp bursts. You may be pushing it a little.

I don't especially want to have to go out and buy another set of Lipos anyway tbh.
I've just bought a Maxamps 6000 2S2P and an Apogee 3800 2S pack and i dont feel like buying another load ;) I'm thinking of goin with a Motor like the 8 or 9 which will be nice and mild on 2S, but monstrous on 3S. There will ba a slight loss in power over the 13 on 4S, but i think in a touring car it would be difficult to hook up with so much power anyway. Thanks for your help, SpEEdyBL :) |
d'oh ive got the 7t in an ST. not got it runnig yet though. hoping it isnt going to thermal too much! :007: might be a little too little torque.
