Well SH__ I am not lucky!
I have only run one set of batteries without breaking something, and this weekend was no different.
Here is a picture of my HB gears from my rear diff. http://www.rustyonline.net/assets/images/RearDiff.jpg Here is a picture of the gears from my front diff. http://www.rustyonline.net/assets/images/Frontdiff.jpg I didn't build them, but want t avoid this. I am on my way to purchase these. <TABLE class=air10px cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD colSpan=2> 87193 4 Bevel Gear Differential Conversion Set (1 Set) </TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top width="53%" rowSpan=2>http://www.hpiracing.com/graphics/pa.../87193_01x.jpg</TD><TD vAlign=top> Savage owners can now get a HPI 4 Bevel Gear Differential Conversion Set for their trucks. The 4 gear conversion is a popular upgrade, especially for heavy-duty driving and high horsepower applications. Now HPI offers a precision factory manufactured set that is a direct replacement for the stock gears. The extra gears decrease the stress on the drivetrain for longer gear life and less maintenance. Each package contains everything needed to upgrade one differential, including strengthened & notched gear shafts, and revised gears that are hardened for extra durability. This will be a very popular option part for Savage owners! I hope they work better. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> |
That would be my advice to you.; get the savage spiders.
The gears you used look silver to me, instead of gold. The golden gears are the hardened ones, like the ones for the savage. The crosspins of the HB diffs are better though. And i use a .25 thick spring steel plate behind every small gear. (square plate, with a hole in it) |
Thanks for the reply. I am going to get the hardened HPI in a couple of days. LHS has an order coming in. I did pick up a set of Kyosho gears to play with set up etc. They seem to be a little better design. They seem to go together more smoothly.
Question: What would cause it to bind when I tighten the ring to the cup? Shimming would only make it tighter right? Thanks! |
Yes, shimming would make it even tighter.
The kyosho gears are no good either, they are probably from aluminum or cheap metal. |
I got my set of spyders from mike. Then again I don't have a lhs that i know of.

I have a couple more questions diff questions...
1. What oil weight are you guys using? 2. Is there an aluminum diff cup that is compatible with the HB diff? Would it be advantageous? Thanks! |
The flm cup on the monster store will fit.
There may be better brands out but not sure. It will strengthen the cup and not allow flex for the gears have abetter mesh. I like 10k but have run some 30k. It would depend on track or conditions you run in. |
The FLM Savage cups?
Does it still use the 8x16 bearing?? |
I think it has a bigger bearing.
I would measure but it is in the case at the moment. |
