HV-maxx problems, can anyone relate?

Ok, heres what Im running...

HV-MAXX
RRP diff gears
RRP 72t slipper
RRP 12t pinion
pro-line 23mm hex
pro-line Moab 40's
pro-line Cheyenne Weld Wheels
steel idlers
Full CVDs

My problem is...its over heating alot with the 7-cell IB 3800's...so i took a cell off and will only run 6-cell now. It was making clicking noises and I thought it was the tranny. I got this guy from the LHS to work on it...he found that it was the HV motor that was grinding and clicking so I sent it back to Novak today. Just want to know if anyone had the same problems and sent in their HV system and what Novak did to fix it. Thanks guys.

There is a good chance they'll just send you a refurbed motor.

Well, im hoping so! Maybe they'll put the new 6.5 parts on it too....yeah right...but still, if anyone has had this problem, speak up!

mine runs a little hot but manageable. I'm running 12/72 with 12 cellsand it drives the nitro's crazy here. The only problem i've had was the magnet seperated from the shaft and the warranty was over, so i got some JB Weld and put it back together. its still running

Thats excellent news! what kind of tire/wheels do you use?

crazyjr 07.20.2006 10:54 PM

I run a G2R with stock revo tires and wheels

The bearing may have went bad in the motor. Can't say for sure. You could have asked about the difference for a 6.5 motor. May try to email or call them to see if you want it.

Hey it couldnt hurt right. I didnt even get 2 full runs with the hv-maxx system. I guess i got a defective one.

I recently upgraded the rotor (6.5) in my 8 week old HV-MAXX and the bearings were *very* dry(squeel like you wouldn't believe), and are still noisy after some bearing oil. I have only run it a dozen times or so since the original purchase. I'm replacing the bearings with the new endbell kit once it's available. I'm running 72/13 with my own electric Revo conversion & 2 8AH Maxamp lipos and 40 series Maxx Mashers tires (taller than stock). I think the original HV has some cheap bearings.

It may not be as powerful as many (most?) of the other systems here, but it's almost too powerful for the tight track I race it on--nitros are no problem so far, except for the Revos with the center diff (working on that!)

How hot are you running? 13/72 may be running hot.

If you're talking about rroberto1, he's running 12/72, if not...

I'm running ~130-140 after running 30 continuous minutes with 80-90 degree ambients--I couldn't have done this with the old rotor. With 13/72 it's pretty wheelie happy with the lowest suspension setting & setting it up pretty soft.

My race weight is well under 10lbs--need to get a scale that goes over 5lbs; I've done just about every light weight mod I can think of except for: titantium driveshaft couplers, CF chassis, CF A-arms, aluminum pivot balls in front, & other misc very small Al pieces. I think my last calculation was about 9.5lbs with the 8AH lips (adding up individual pieces). When I'm racing I'm also running the 40 series bowties (much lighter than the Maxx Mashers)

there is this gearing-chart at the novak site, i don't know what gearing you should be running, but 72-12 sounds fair to me

rroberto1 07.22.2006 04:45 AM

Yeah, those were my thoughts exactly...but hopefully when I get the HV back from Novak they will have fixed the problem!

Fits the new 6.5 rotor in the old HV4400 armature without modifications??

squeeforever 07.23.2006 06:00 PM

It should. The only differences are that they nickle plate the rotors now and they redesigned the outside of the can for better cooling.
