You know what really grinds my gears….
..... this new brushless system!:005:
I keep grinding and chipping ring and pinion gears on my truggy. I blew two sets in three battery charges, they were shimmed and greased correctly. I know they do make hardened ones but is it really worth it? Should I just ditch this truggy all together (BTW it is an ofna ultra GT) and convert my Monster GT? Opinions wanted… |
I would personally sell the MGT and the truggy you have and upgrade to a LSP-R. Its got just about all the factory hopups, hardened diffs with a lower ratio which makes it easier to gear, easy to convert, TRUE truggy, etc. I have one and its pretty damn durable. But if thats not an option, just get some truggy diffs from Mike and a bigger pinion to compensate.

Well i all ready have an lsp, but my dad bought it for me and wont let me modify it. But i'll see what i can do...

A converted mgt is a good conversion. I love mine. I had a problem with spurs as well. I think it needs some of the truggy diffs to take pressure off the diff some.

so.. if I convert my MGT i will be in the same position I am in now as far as diffs go? |
What gears are messing up?
The ones in the front and back or center? |

OH! I thought you was talking center at first. It could be related to diff case flex. that would lead to deflection and unmatched gear mesh. Do you run aluminum diff cups?

I don't run aluminum diff cups, its not the gears inside the diff thats the problem. I think that it is just a dated design (ofna doesn't make the ultra GT any more). A brushless MGT is looking mighty nice right now.... |
I have run the mgt with 1950 8t on 6s limn. It didn't blow a diff. Me and my bro has one and hasn't blown a diff in either yet. Both have been converted to brushless and was used when got them. I got a thread on mine and the first one in it is the one my brother has.

I put a emaxx trans on it. I used it like a big emaxx.
You need special dog bones and make a some adapter plates to do it. The stock trans is fine if you leave the mechanical brake and shifter if you want reverse. Post your results on it if you do the mgt. I did a plate on the bottom of chassis to lower the COG. It made it handle better than the first conversion. My conversion is not to heavy. I can get a weight if you want. I can say it is lighter than my gmaxx. |
