Heatshrink tubing for e-molis?
 

I've been looking for heat shrink tubing to cover my 2s2p emoli pack and can't find a direct online retailer. I need it big enough so it will go over 2 stacked batteries in height and cover the batteries lengthwise (so the terminals are covered). Considering each cell is 26.5mm in diameter and 70mm long, and I am stacking them two high, this means the pre-shrunk tubing has to be at least 75mm long X 55mm high, or about 85mm diameter.

Try TrueRC.com. They have some fairly large heatshrink tubing.

When I bought Emoli from Dave at M2EnergySolutions.com, he provided some 4" wide shrink wrap that fit perfectly for 2s2p.

Maxamps sells shrinkwrap, they've been my source of shrinkwrap for a while.

here is a good site that sells a ton of supplys. just search for heat shrink and it will come up with many different styles to choose from, I do a lot of shopping here for my company. Tools, screws, and just about whatever else you can think of. Shipping is usually very fast as they have wharehouse in several states. UPS ground usully arrives next day, if not 2 day max no matter where I am in the states.

I can't seem to find it at Maxamps.com. I did a search for heat shrink and came up with a result for 4" tubing, but it is almost too cheap so I don't know if it is actually the right size?

M2EnergySolutions.com doesn't have a way to order the wrap by itself that I can see. Besides, it looks like the fairly thin, glossy stuff and I'd rather have the black rubbery stuff.

www.mcmaster.com looks like they have the stuff, but it's quite expensive there!

I found this site. Still pretty expensive, but not bad. However, their order page isn't secure, so I'd have to call it in.

Yeah, I found that earlier by doing a search. But I figured it was not right since it seemed too cheap for 4" shrink when other places were charging ~$7-$8 per foot. Is the maxamps stuff the typical glossy thin stuff? I am shooting for the thicker rubbery stuff. Although, for the difference in price, I think I can deal with the glossy stuff. :)

Brian, from my calcs you only need about 3 inches. For $7-8 you could do 4 or so packs. Seems pretty cheap to me compared to all of the other parts. 10 bucks and you get exactly what you want If you sendme the part # from mc master I will see if we need any at work. with a little leftover of course. BTW: I calculated ~83mm (3.25") diameter to account for battery bars, wiring, and a tiny gap between each cell where they are hotglued together. Plus, I didn't want to have to wrestle the pack in there. :)

Maxamps stuff is the thin glossy stuff, that's on 90% of battery packs out there.

I was talking about your75mm (2.95) estimation for length . Do you want the shrink tube with glue inside? That's the thickest stuff I know of but a total pain to get off.Is it worth building you own to save 7-8 dollars? Not really saving that much if you have to pay for the expensive heat shrink. I'm new and have been thinking of building my packs but couldn't find were it would save me very much money in the long run.

The heavy duty ones at the bottom are fairly thick from what I have heard.

NO, definitely not the stuff with the glue inside! I can just imagine what that stuff is like! As far as the size; pretty much any HS shrinks down to about half the size, so I'm not too worried about excess, as long as it isn't extreme.

It's OK Tazz - better late than never. :) Even if I don't use it, maybe someone else may benefit, especially for people who build larger packs with emolis, M1 cells, or even sub-C hump packs.
