Stripping pinion gears

I have a mostly stock E-Maxx with stock motor. I've stripped the two pinion gears, they are RRP 18T gears, it also has a RRP slipper clutch. I've replaced the pinion gears and now I can see why they stripped. The slipper clutch wobbles when it goes around. It is tight and everything looks normal. What would cause something like this?

Thanks,
Nick

I believe it is the little tension spring. Even though the bottom of the coils are flat, there is a little uneven-ness which makes it wobble a little. That shouldn't wear out pinions though. Are you using a steel spur? That would do it.

It does have a steel spur gear from RRP. I will take apart the spur gear and put it back together to see if it aligns better.
Thanks,
Nick

best is to loosen the slipper until you can move the spur by hand and then try to eye ball it untill its as even as you can get it, if not do it until you can get it. works for me;)

Actually the best thing to do is to get rid of the spur. It's intended for a T-Maxx with a hardened steel clutchbell. Either put the stocker on there or get the plastic gear from RRP.

I thought I should of been using the plastic one also, but the guys at my LHS told me differently. Can I run a strobe spur gear setup with the stock motors?

Thanks for all of the help guys,

Nick

The steel spurs require hardened pinion gears to go with them.

If you want to stick with the slipper you have (which imo is a nice peice of kit) just get the machined plastic RRP one. I have one with my now un-used RRP slipper and it never really worn.
