Plugs needed for 1950/8?
What size plugs do I need to attach wires to a 1950/8? I can't really tell from the pics, but it looks like the plugs go right into the back of the motor?
Anyone know when Mike's going to get more 1950s? Should I get the hi amp 8 or no? |
I wouldn't get a high amp. The plugs are 3.5mm BTW.

non hi amp is 3.5 mm male
hi amp is a direct solder or plug of your choice. |
Ciao,
go for the hi-amp version. The "normal" one has 3 female 3.5 gold plated connectors made by 2 parts joined together by pression. It's easy to break off them. I broke off one of them early in my bashing. Another thing I do not like about the "normal" version is that the current drawing can go up to 100 Ampere and that 3.5 bullet connectors risk to be a resistent point for the current flow. If just one phase has an higher resistence, makes the controller heating up. So I say go for the hi-amp version, do not use any connectors, keep the cables as short as possible, and finally use a silver solder pond. Just my 2 cents, Ciao, Daniele |

The problem could be about the connectors but it could also be about the
welding. Soldering the cables into the connectors and soldering cable to cable is very different. I also have to say you have to do 2 weldings for each cable with the connectors, instead of just one if do not use it. Do you often change the motor ? This is the only right reason to use connectors. Any others are not techincal reasons :) Ciao, Daniele |
