lightning difs... 15 minutes shelflife...

hi guys,
Yesterday i tried to run my new setup: flm hybrids+ lightning diffs.
I run 66/18 on a feigao C9L, and it stay just under 100°C on the worth case... That's fine!
But my front diff didn't handle this power more than 15 minutes...
Can someone confirm me that I can use Cen Genesis diffs onto the flm hybrid bulks??? This mod can be done on the savage, that can receive Hyper7 diffs in its gearbox... What's about the flm gearbox???

All thanks for ur help!
Fab.

I know that Genesis diffs are the ultimate diff upgrade for the savage with big motors... anyone tried them???

Well if you were running the front with a stock, rear, thats the problem. Besides...100*C??? Thats extremely to hot....

did you shim the diffs correctly? if not then that could lead to striped ring and pinion gears. BTW are you talking about R&P, or spider gears............:032:

I find it hard to believe that if they were shimmed correctly the would strip since there hardened gears. But if you were running stock gears, like we discussed in the other thread, that is one of the reasons, I'm sure. BTW, Mike includes everything you need to shim them and everything. Even the bearings.

i have to add that my motor temps was about 92°C after 2 runs (IB3800 and GP3700), and that the track was improvised on sticky grass... too much for my front diff with the mulsher tires... i've not open my diff cases yet, but i don't want to buy another lightning diff if there is a better solution...

What's about the Genesis diffs??? do they fit the FLM hybrid box?

Can't give you a one on one answer. Can you hook me up with a pic of the ringgear?

fagzz 08.20.2006 04:49 PM

all what i know about genesis diffs is that they are compatible with hpi savage gearbox, and hyper7 diffs are also compatible with this savage gearbox... i don't find any pic of the genesis ring gear on the web...

my lightning diffs came from towerhobby, i didn't opened them, just put them onto my hybrid bulks and run...

They are probably not the hardened ones.

If you want tough diffs you can get the hardened ones from Mike. The C8019 cup that is used is one of the toughest available. use M3 machine screws to tighten it. You can also use the savage internals for it, they are good too.

can you please take your diffs apart and show what went wrong?

fagzz 08.20.2006 05:31 PM

yes i will take a shot...

squeeforever 08.20.2006 07:37 PM

Like I said, part of your problem might be that you were running a stock one in the rear...

fagzz 08.21.2006 01:43 AM

??? sorry Squee, but i don't understand... what have to be used in place of the stock lightning diff on the rear??? How does the rear diff interact with the front one? Thanks for ur help, and sorry for disturbing you with my problems, i'm new with this setup... :(
will take a shot of my front diff tonight...

squee means that if you were running the lightning diff in the front and the stock maxx diff in the back; the front wheels would be spinning slower then the back and create unequal pressure through the driveline and break something.

i'm a newbie but i'm not completely silly, lol!
For sure i used lightning diffs front and rear! :)

coolhandcountry 08.21.2006 09:19 AM

I can tell you may have happened to fagzz. If you was running in kind of tall grass. The grass can wrap around the tire and then either the truck has to not go or something has to give. I have broke up more than one diff like this. If you have to much problem get the 8 spyder diffs instead.
