Brushless help
I am looking at getting a brushless motor for my E-maxx, basically stock. I have kind of looked at the HV6.5, but it looks like an XL might be better way to go. The main thing I am looking for is maybe a little more speed, but mainly longer run times. I would like to stay with 12 to 14 cells. Any suggestions? What all do I need if I go with an XL motor? How much am I going to be into it? I'm guessing $300 to $400 right.
I have 3.3 revo shafts and carriers on the truck. And I will at least get the steel idler gears when I put a brushless motor in my truck. Would the Quark 80B esc controller work with a Feigao C 8XL or C 9XL if I stayed with 12 to 14 cells? So it looks like I will go with: Feigao C 8XL or C 9XL, Quark 80B, steel idler gears, Strobe slipper Thanks for all the help everybody!! You guys are awesome!! |
depends how mutch you want to spend jim, yes the XL motor are good you can choose from ither the wander XL's or a fiego C XL's your definatly going to need a ubec. In my opinion i would go for the wander with a rc-monster heat sink, choise of motor would be an 8XL because the rpm range is good for 12-16 cells i belive.
if you want more power less cogging and far better eficiency then an XL you could go with LMT 19 series but cost a lot more then a wander of fiego welcome:D |
First off, welcome to the forums! I would definately choose the Feigao XL C motor over a Novak. If you can swing it, a Quark 125B is the best, but a 9920 will certainly do. CVD's, or the 3.3 setup is a must, and a UBEC is a necessity above 12 cells. Aluminum diff cups and cases are a good investment, but the FLM hybrids with Hot Bodies Lightning diffs are the way to go. A little more, but you never have to worry abou them again.
Edit: Mike, why would you choose the Wanderer? It cost more with the heatsink, and just as much without...No differences what so ever other than the heatsink and the screwed on endbell. |
i have to comfirm that the motor is from rc-monster. :D your right the fiego C XL motors are better in some ways. to me it wouldn't make a difference if i had the wander with a heat sink or a fiego c XL.

It might if you saved 30 bucks...

Does the c can clear the trans mission on a truck?
If you looking to only get a little more than stock with out a lot of work. The 10L may be a good choice. It will still be more than the hv. I would recommend getting the steel idlers at least. The diffs should hold fair depending on tire selection. Welcome to the forum to. |
if your going with the 10L your definatly going to need a heat sink on that!
|
I would use squee's choices. He's a good motor guy! LOL, fiago c xl

Would the Quark 80B esc controller work with a Feigao C 8XL or C 9XL if I stayed with 12 to 14 cells?
|
Yes it would. But as Squee suggested, you would need a external ubec. they are only like 30.00. Get one from Mike. I think anything over 10 cells.
|
Oh, one last thing. What gearing for this setup? And is that a 5mm shaft on the feigao C 8XL?
|
I believe it is 5mm, but double chekc on the site, that'll tell you foresure. Gearing depends on what your runing it in. if you are running 32 pitch, 12/66 would be a good starting point maybe, or 51 mod 1, 16/51 is a good starting point. But again, all depends on what you're running it in.
|
You need a UBEC above 12 cells. I have run one on 14 but wouldn't suggest it. It would certainly spell certain death eventually. The 80 would be ok on a 9XL for sure. You would have to gear conservatively on a 8XL, but I'm sure it would be ok.
|
Are you sure squee? I could swear my manual said 10 or above?
|
If you run the 9xl on a 80b quark you have to gear down some. If you go with a 125b you can do little better on gearing choices. I had the 9xl on 6s geared 13 51 with ue diffs with 2 speed. If ran to hard it would thermal.
