New Novak HV 6.5 brushless upgrade

Has anyone tried one of the new Novak HV 6.5 Brushless setup? I would be interested to know how it stacks up abgainst the Faigao line.

Looks like Novak also has a "Crawler" serie Brushless setup for power rock crawlers.

The 6.5 isn't that impressive. The new 4.5 is supposed to be alot faster. I heard it was actually faster than a 9L on 12 cells. The only differences in the 6.5 and the old version is that the 6.5 runs a little cooler from what I here.

I'm getting the new rotor for mine this week and will tell how it runs

Sounds interesting. The motor isn't too heavy, perhaps a nice motor for a lightweight 4S project.. Novak; Time for a lipo cut-off!

I think the 6.5 may be an improvement over the older ones. It is a step up from the stock titans. ease to install to.

Its really the same except for the ribbed can and the sintered rotor

The 6.5 is perfect for me. I don't crave insane speed just a ton of torque so this is a perfect setup. I usually get 40 to 45 minute run times on my setup and the temp never goes over 130 degrees. Geared at 70/13 and I have a front and rear cutout on the body for good airflow.

One last thing, the brakes are insane on the 6.5, I had to turn the EPA to 85% to keep it from flipping on its lid!

40-45 minutes? What cells do you use?

bluonyx 08.28.2006 09:17 PM

I have 2 8000mah lipos from Maxamps.

I upgraded from the HV 4400 to the 6.5 (rotor replacement) a few weeks ago and it was quite an improvement. It runs a whole lot cooler and it feels like the effective KV is lower--I had to gear up :) I agree with the brakes--flipped it on it's lid several times before I got used to it. I ran it for almost 30 minutes yesterday on one of my local tracks non-stop and the motor nor the ESC never got above ~120. Batteries were Maxamps 8000 2S2P.

Can you get a movie of it Rob?

RobK 08.29.2006 11:37 AM

I don't have a video camera, although it's on the list competing for R/C parts :)

I think i know what wins..

Have you got another BL setup besides this hvmaxx?

RobK 08.29.2006 02:35 PM

No, the HV is my 1st & only brushless. It's almost too fast for the little track I'm currently going to. My only comparison point is the original Titans from my EMAXX--which is no comparison. Unless I start going to a much larger track, I just don't see the need for a more powerful motor--I'm more of a racer than a basher.

true, most tracks are good to go for 12-14 cells or 4S lipo.
