Mamba Max and 9XL

I'd like to use a Mamba Max esc + a Feigao 9XL or maybe 10XL in a 1/8 buggy. Possibly a 777 SP2. That system should be ok, but how will it perform in the 1/8? Am I completely wrong when I think that the Mamba can handle the 9XL?

I know there are better options around. I've got the Quark in a Revo. Two of those and my wife would take away my key. I'm trying to do it cheaper and I think it should work, but someone elses opinion is always appreciated.

And I'm only using 2s or 3s lipo.

the esc might survive, the 9xl or 10xl is going to be very very slow on 2s lipo or 3s. you really need a minimun of 4s lipo to run that motor. you need more of a 9l or 8l motor for 3s.

2 or 3S LiPo wouldn't get the 9XL moving or even a 1/8th scale buggy. Go with 4S, a UBEC (since the internal can't handle it), and a 8XL. That should be a good setup.

9xl on 2s is not going to be fun. It will be way slow or have to gear way up to have a decent speed. Then the amp draw would be hi.

Just trying to use what I've got and not buy a new motor and esc. Would the 9L work in a 1/8 buggy?

By the way, a 8L might be decent on 3S, but I wouldn't recommend it. One thing is it will sucks some amps and runtime will suck. Go for a 8XL on 4S. The 9L would work, but you might want to get 4S instead of 2 or 3S. 4S on a 9XL would be ok as well.

i second the 8xl + 4s lipo combo.

So, what I need is
- UBEC
- 4s lipo
- My Mamba Max
- 8XL

I've never used a UBEC before. I guess it's pretty easy to install. Thanks.

If you have the 9xl and run it on 4s. It won't do that bad. Just wouldn't run it on 2s.

Had a discussion with a friend today. Does two 2s batteries, like Orion 4800, mean you've got 4s? Or do you have to use two 4s batteries? Or would one
4s battery be enought for a buggy?

MetalMan 09.05.2006 08:58 AM

Two 2s packs wired in series gives a 4s pack. 4s is what many (probably most) people use in 1/8 buggies when they use LiPo.

Can a mamba max handle 4s?

glassdoctor 09.05.2006 10:40 AM

Yes, but you need to bypass the bec.... pull the red wire from the rx plug and use a ubec or rx pack.

The built in bec will have issues with 4s according to CC.

And be sure to get proper lipo's!

neweuser 09.05.2006 03:11 PM

You could run a 9xl on 4s, just need to gear up for some speed, and as stated before the amp draw would also go up...it wouldn't be bad though. i run 5s lipo on my 9xl....
