How do you shim the FLM combo bulks?

I replaced the ring and pinion in my front diff tonight. I put the combo bulk back together and the gears were binding when turned. If I would loosen up the bolts holding the combo bulks together, it would free up a little and wouldn't bind as bad. I don't remember it binding this bad before. What's up?
Thanks.

do you use shimms or not?

My guess would be that the pinion gear is hitting the cups. But like Serum said, are you using shims? If not, when you put your cup on, you may not have pulled it far back enough.

no, pinion is not the issue.

It's the distance between the two bearings that support the diff that are a concern.

Mine did the same thing Serum, but when i took it completely apart, i had scraps on the cup from my pinion gear hitting it, so i took one shim out and was fine. Only binded when i put the bulks together though until i shimmed it properly. But that was just mine.

Johny used his already, so this problem would have showed before.

The problem is that they don't have got much play between the bearings that support the diff. Sometimes you don't use shims at all with those bulkless things.

And normally when a diff, which is designed like the bulkless, has problems like Johny discribes (binding when the screws are tightened) the problem is that the bearings get cought up. it wouldn't make sence that the pinion is touching the diff-case.

No shims being used and no signs of the pinion touching the case.
What concerns me that I forgot to mention is that when I turn it, it will bind and then turn freely, bind and then turn freely, like it is lopsided or something. I will take the ring gear off of the cup and re mount it and see if that does anything.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks.
