What Controller to Use for Hacker C50 Maxx
I have been sitting on my Hacker motor for the longest time. I got it way back in 2002 or 3. And at that time I had no clue that it required another controller!
So, what is a good controller for this motor? I can run 12 or 14 cells. I do not want to go higher because of my type of charger. And I am running GP3300 batteries. Cannot think of anything else you need to know....just ask if yah need some more information. This is what I am putting it in. The whole truck is beefed up with UE 8 Spyder Diffs, MIP CVD's Center/Front/Rear, RRP Slipper and now I just need to update the idler gears. Just as I was getting all this stuff together I moved to Amsterdam so the brushless part of the project sat on the way side. BTW, I am kinda happy with the speed I get from the Titans but I do not want to go a whooole lot faster. I just want to get into the brushless arena. Thanks! http://hometown.aol.com/mikeytheteac...%20%20cage.jpg |
Hello Mikey and welcome to the forum's, good to have another dutchy on!
I started with the same motor in a full supermaxx, it did good but not great. Lacked runtime. Seeing that you run large tire's, I would advice to sell the motor and get one with a 5mm shaft. The 3,2 mm shaft will break way to easely, and a spare rotor(shaft with magnet) run's about 60€. But you can run the motor on any brushless controller for 2 pole motor's, like the wanderer, mgm and quark. |
I ran mine with the Hacker Sport controller (60A) in my emaxx.... I think a MambaMax would work great.
Keep it geared low and you should be happy with it if the Titans are doing the job now. The C50maxx is a pretty hot motor (+3000kv) so you have to watch the gearing... |
Thanks Sneek!
Guess what!? Actually, I am not a Dutchie! LOL...I moved here about 2 years ago from California! Boy do I miss it a lot, but soon I am to move to England. I will research those controllers. What parameters (paramiters?) should I look for in a controller? I'de hate to buy a controller that was not powerful enough. I think the lowest I can go is 12/72. That should be low enough...I hope. Also, forgot to tell you. I do not like the larger sized rims and tires. They are such a pain on the drivetrain and stearing (proline stearing kit with Hitec 160oz servo...cannot remember the #) I prefer the normal 3.2 tires. |
Cali huh. Man you guys got some nice bike park's out there.(mtb) Need to pay them a visit someday...
I would go for the quark controller. Lot of guys here run them and are very satisfied with them. Also be sure not to under gear the c-50 as it will heat up very easy. |
He's from the Traxxas forums i believe! Good guy. WELCOME! Nice to see your truck!

Welcome.. It sounds logical you miss California.... The weather here sucks LOL..
well, for your application i would save me the money and get the mamba-maxx. If you are looking for something in the future (read >> bigger setup) I would consider the quark 125. |
Cool, I have thought about it a bit. And I think I will delve into the mamba. This jump into brushless that I am doing is just to get a taste for it. Cause, I really am happy with how my maxx performs now. Well, for now atleast. And since I have this motor sitting around I do want to finally get it up and running.
As long as the MambaMaxx can handle the C50 I have I am perfectly happy! Hey Neweuser! Yeppers, that's me! And thanks for the intro! That made my day! Knowledge is power. |
Yeah, that Mamba ESC is really nice. It is good for 100A and up to 4s (12cells) so it should work well for you. Plus, you can run brushed motors as well as brushless on it! Just make sure you set it up right. You'll love the programmability (via PC) to get it to do what you want.

It's a top-notch thing. That USB programming is really convenient.
14 cells seem to be good to go as well. |
