gearing for mm
 

i just ordered the mamba max 5700 and i was wondering how i should gear this thing. im runnin it in a stampede with moabs. i would like my speedy/motor to run cool but with the max speed. ill be runnin 6 cell nimn cells. thanx for the help guys.

I think a 14t pinion should work pretty well with an 87t spur gear.

well right now i have an 81 tooth spur so what pinion do i need. 17?

No, more like a 12 or 13.

No problem. If you go up in spur, you need a smaller pinion to get the same ratio. and visa versa

I'm running a 16 or 17 pinion on my 5700 and the esc motor and batteries are around 160 when i get through a pack so the 14 might be good with the 87 and 12 good for the 81. I don't have them that small right now but its not hurting the performance. As soon as i get some smaller pinions or bigger spurs i'll report back on how it runs

Have you got a temp-gun for measurements? this is the ultimate way to actually gear your car the most efficient.

Just curious, what do you have the emmissivity set at? (assuming it's an IR gun). I find mine to be inaccurate no matter what I set it to. I tried calibrating it against a thermistor-type temp sensor since the material and color has little to do with the reading, but I can't seem to get an accurate emmissivity setting that will work reasonably well across most materials (Al vs steel, anodized vs not finished, etc).

I totally agree. Even different colours act different (the purlple on the GP3300's can be like 65 degrees, while the metal is 40 degrees..

that's a pita. i try to measure on silver parts, that seems to be the most accurate.

Normally you use it as a reference, if you measure on one point, gear it different and measure it again on that certain spot, you know what the result is/was.
