RCM's Revo Reborn on RC Driver

Don't know the date this was published, so I don't know if this is a repost. Must be fairly recent as they mention the skunkworks "slipperential."

Here is the article

Top speed of 48 on 4S is impressive, but the thing that caught me was that an 8L was used as the motor vs the XLs recommended here. I was also looking at the article on the Fine Design LST. They too only used a 4s, but do not disclose what turn motor they use ( one of a few crappy things about this IMO.) I thought I saw somewhere they used an L can as well, but now I can't find it to verify.

But the article on the LST does say the motor and esc were too hot to touch after the single pack. In my experience, this must be in the 160-170F and up range. (God knows how high... ) Pretty shoddy after a single pack of driving around on pavement IMO. Esp for $1200...

I'm a little curious to why Mike recc'd that particular motor when the XLs are the convention around here. Just how hot is too hot for motors? Very nice truck, I'm just wondering about the reliability. Are XLs overkill? Doesn't seem so to me, but I'm just questioning conventions.

"To determine the appropriate choice for a brushless system, I turned to Mike Cronin of RC-Monster.com. Mike is that “source” I mentioned in the opening paragraph. I explained the project to him and anxiously awaited his recommendation. What he hooked me up with was the Quark Monster Pro ESC from Sky & Technology, the sensorless, brushless Feigao 8L motor and a pair of 8000mAh battery packs from MaxAmps."

I understand the rest of the setup, just not the 8L. The only thing I can think is that the budget was finite (aren't they all ;) ) and the writer was looking for for blistering speed to showcase in the article rather than long-term issues like system heat etc etc. The 9Ls already have a rep for running hot in MTs, so I can't imagine what the 8L would do, tho it would be a sight to behold while it was running. :030:

Compring to the other G2R that was in a magazine that had a 1950, I'm not thinking Mike is shorting the rec on the motor. Just curious what that conversation was. I also found it a bit amusing that the guy complained about not having a mount for the Rx, went and got a big square of CF, but left the stock dual servos. Spending that $ on a single servo would had been much better spent and left a much nicer and cleaner mount for the Rx or ESC, eh but to each his own.

Yeah, i read the article, but i can't believe Mike advised it to him.

I'm pretty sure the 8L was requested, not recommended.

Yeah, that's what i figured batfish.

those hot setups are nothing like Mike.
