setup differences

i run an lmt 1950/8 non high amp with a quark 125b on 5s or 6s lipo. i have a problem though. the quark doesn't work properly on 6s. from what everyone claims 4s is great with the quark, so i would like to run a 1950/6 on 4s and 5s with the quark. what would be the performance differences if any? thanks, tally!

Runtime would suffer a good bit...

starscream 10.16.2006 07:25 PM

Squee is right, your runtime will suffer running lower voltage.
Someone mentioned to try running the quark on 6s without the bec enabled. Antone try this yet?

squeeforever 10.16.2006 07:31 PM

Probably everybody. The BEC is only rated for 10 cells.

starscream 10.16.2006 07:43 PM

Hmm, I thought there was a mod you could do.
I ran my Quark with a BEC without making any changes.
I see in the instuction manual that the OPTO Modification says to disconnect or remove the the middle red wire from the pin of the receiver socket.
This may be a dumb questions but ,what does removing the red wire do?

captain harlock 10.16.2006 07:58 PM

Disable the BEC.:)

starscream 10.16.2006 08:09 PM

OK,
So I never disconnected the red wire and ran my system with 5S and the Unltimate BEC. I did not observe any problems there.
I never tried 6s because of the stuttering/cogging problem I heard everyone talking about. Has anyone disconnected the red wire and still experienced the stuttering/cogging problem?

captain harlock 10.16.2006 08:13 PM

I cant give you any answers simply because Ive never owned a Quark befor.
Castle Creations also advise the user to take out the red wire when using a receiver pack or a seperate bec.

Yes. Everybody who has tried 6S to my knowledge...

When the truck coggs with 6s and a Quark controller, does it make a crazy stutterring like the one I've discribed in my thread?

squeeforever 10.16.2006 08:28 PM

I don't think so. I think it coggs kinda bad until it gets moving...

tallyram 10.16.2006 08:36 PM

as long as you give it throttle, it jerks really bad. cogging is putting it lightly!

back to the question. i would really like to use the controller that i "wasted" money on, but what would be suitable replacement for the quark. i would like programming options and an lvc. i also have 12020 that has a problem losing midrange throttle. please advise!

squeeforever 10.16.2006 09:16 PM

I would choose the 24160...

tallyram 10.16.2006 10:11 PM

it seems like every esc has some kind of compromise. whats the compromise with the mgm's? that is what has driven me to nitro.

starscream 10.16.2006 10:16 PM

Price and they don't work with FMA DPM's
Hang in there, you'll have a whole new line up of issues to deal with if you go nitro.
