waterproof brushless system
Is there a waterproof brushless system for an e-maxx?
|
Mtroniks escs are waterproof... I don't know if water in the motors would cause problems. It's not a problem for brushed motors....
|
you want to drive under water?
Or on snow or anything? |
mostly snow and maybe mud.

Water and electricity don't mix as a general rule. While it is true that the mtroniks controllers are water proof, water causes rust, so motors won't last long. I guess if you take efforts to keep things as dry and clean as you can, but have a waterproof controller "just in case", it should be alright. Anytime I played in the snow, I covered everything up real well before playing and cleaned up real well after.

If you make it water resistance on the easy way, you will also make it air-tight, and the controller needs to loose it's heat. So you need something to transfer the heat out..
The electronics are protected against moist, with a film layer of lacquer, but that's not enough for serious water.. |
Like glassdoctor said, the Mtroniks ESCs are waterproof. All of the parts (besides solder posts) are housed in an epoxy-like material, so it would take a lot to fry the components with water. On the Mtroniks Truck, there is a large heatsink that is pretty effective at shedding heat.

Okay, that's one part in the chain, now you need the rest of it.

If you put the rx in a waterproof case (commercially available or homemade) and run a Mtroniks, there aren't many roadblocks left... you can use silicone to waterproof the servo and put some thick grease around the output horn.
If you don't run it underwater these steps "should" protect the car. I have run cars like this and they survived in rain and puddles etc... my kids think it's cool to run through (small) puddles. Nothing that submerges the cars though... :026: |
